Chief Accountant - Profile

Reporting to the Director of Finance, the incumbent is responsible for supporting the accounting team within the divisions of North America. The role is to manage the accounting team, mentor, establish performance objectives, monitor progress, and provide performance feedback. The Chief Accountant will play a key role in the execution of the strategy, and in the adherence and deployment of the policies and corporate culture.

We are looking for someone with strong leadership skills and with a demonstrated experience in accounting and management in accountant teams.  The candidate must be comfortable evolving in a fast-changing environment.  Problems solving and processes improvement are also part of the job. The person with the best fit will be results oriented!

Responsibilities summary

  • Responsible for team's engagement and team's performance management to build a high performing team
  • Collaborates with partners in and outside of finance to build scalable processes to support growth
  • Evaluates and optimize month-end close processes constantly, striving to deliver process automation and improved accuracy
  • Develops and executes management reporting packages that provide meaningful data and insights to support decision making. Partner with the corporate and Business Unit accounting teams to anticipate and implement value creation, cost efficiencies and growth opportunities
  • Leverage technology to build scalable/sustainable processes to create efficiencies, streamline accounting operations and improve employee experience
  • Monitors and provides recommendations for working capital changes to improve cash flow.
  • Ensures development, documentation, and adherence to Accounting Best Practices, Controls and Procedures. Instills excellence in financial operating procedures and compliance with applicable accounting policies

Experience & profile

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting
  • Minimum ten (10) years of experience in management accounting teams
  • CPA designation (preferred)
  • Thorough knowledge of GAAP standards
  • Action oriented, Managerial courage, Process management mindset, Business acumen and Building effective teams are key leadership competencies required
  • Excellent Communication skills (both written and verbal – English & French)
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Detail oriented and ability to vulgarize the accounting language to diverse audiences
  • Having a growth mindset
