Overview of the Role

Working as part of the finance and accounting team in Canada you will be responsible for various aspects of the accounting and trust cycles. The position will require you to investigate and respond to both internal and external client queries in a professional and tactful manner. As a key member of the team, your role will also require you to be flexible and to assist and support other members of the team with a variety of accounting and trust tasks as required.

This role will be exercised by working remotely 4 days per week and 1 day at the Montreal office under current circumstances, recognizing that this set-up in terms of working remotely versus working on site at the office may change over time.

Primary Responsibilities


  • Ensure the integrity of the financial information by preparing monthly detailed reviews of balance sheet and P&L accounts for all entities.
  • Prepare bank reconciliations and investigate / follow-up on discrepancies on a regular basis.
  • Process all outgoing wires via online banking platforms and/or through the bank agent.
  • Support and provide information as needed in regards to accounts payable, trust, and banking information.
  • Process and record high-level AP vouchers and journals in the accounting system.
  • Prepare monthly sales taxes reporting and assist in providing related information for government reporting as required.
  • Prepare information for year-end audit and tax filings and to liaise with local as well as international accountants as required.
  • Perform ad-hoc projects and tasks as required.
  • Maintain virtual and physical accounting filing system for both Canadian offices.
  • Year-end payroll balancing responsibility and assist in preparing related information for government reporting.
  • Perform and maintain group insurance records for monthly payment and reconciliations.


  • Ensure the integrity of the trust information by preparing monthly, annual, and ad-hoc trust reporting as requested by law authorities.
  • Prepare and communicate trust accounts follow-up for both Canadian offices on a regular basis.
  • Prepare and record all outgoing trust wires and trust checks requests in both accounting systems and bank platform.

Qualifications Required

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, commerce or the equivalent;
  • A professional qualified accountant (CPA designation) is required;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in both English and French;
  • Minimum of 5-6 years of relevant experience;
  • Advanced Excel skills are a must;
  • Experience with professional services software is a plus;
  • Capable of demonstrating keen analytical and problem solving skills;
  • Ability to work well under pressure and to meet deadlines;
  • Good commercial sense with excellent attention to detail;
  • Marked time management skills with the ability to prioritize key tasks;
  • A dedicated professional, committed to delivering superior service through having an open disposition and willingness to learn;
  • Display sense of diplomacy, trust and integrity;
  • Have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work well with staff at all levels.
