Role Description Avenge is seeking a dynamic, motivated Financial Controller to lead our accounting team. The Controller oversees the company's financial health and provides strong supervision and mentorship to the accounting department. This includes preparing, maintaining, and analyzing financial statements, payroll, budgets, and tax compliance, conducting internal audits, and managing the submission of financial reports to stakeholders.
This position will be based out of Peace River, Grande Prairie or Calgary, Alberta.
This is an in-office role, no remote or hybrid arrangements are available.
Salary Range: CA$120,000.00-CA$140,000.00 per year based on experience and education.
Responsibilities Oversee and provide backup support across all accounting functions, including A/P, A/R, cost, inventory, and payroll accounting Manage cash flow Recommend and help develop accounting policies, planning, and procedures to ensure the most efficient use of resources Develop internal controls, analyze variances, produce reports, and reconcile general ledgers Oversee and support month end and year end processes Partner with management on long term financial strategy Prepare financial statements Lead budgeting through forecasting and analysis Follow up with clients on outstanding payments and coordinate communication to resolve issues Collaborate with department heads to ensure accuracy in departmental financials by generating monthly reports for review and confirmation, and oversee adjustments as needed Develop monthly and quarterly financial review presentations for departments Actioning federal tax payroll deductions, filing, and remittance. Take on additional responsibilities as needed to support the business
Skill and Attributes: Strong attention to detail, paired with the ability to explain the "why" behind the numbers Flexibility to quickly adapt communication style, format, and content when new information arises Motivated self-starter with a can-do attitude Solid knowledge of accounting principles and procedures Demonstrated ability to manage and lead change, and to build process improvements Strong collaborator who works well across teams Skilled at managing and prioritizing multiple initiatives at once Ability to organize thoughts logically and persuasively, and communicate them effectively in conversation, writing, and formal presentations
Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA Minimum of 3+ years progressive accounting and finance experience, including direct supervision of staff Strong knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and financial reporting Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Business Central D365 or similar) and advanced Excel skills
