The Role: Contributes to the overall success of the Canadian Banking Business Risk Management (CB BRM) unit through the development, implementation and sustainment of risk and compliance initiatives in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures. The Manager, Risk Operations will ensure integrated and comprehensive business controls are in place to reinforce a strong risk and control culture in Canadian Banking. In addition, the incumbent will support the implementation and sustainment of a strong compliance risk environment through their involvement in the Bank’s Operational Risk Framework, Risk Compliance Management (RCM) and compliance risk processes such as Compliance Risk & Controls Assessment (CRCA). The main area of responsibility for the Manager, Risk Operations is to ensure that the overall implementation of the Compliance and Operational Risk Framework within the first line of defense. As part of the Bank’s RCM approach, update and maintain the regulatory control libraries for applicable business units to ensure that it is accurate, comprehensive and up to date. Execute quarterly CRCA attestations and annual CRCA process in alignment with the RCM Program and in collaboration with the Risk Advisors, Risk Owners and Compliance. Execute the bank’s operational risk event program. Support the identification, assessment, entry, tracking and remediation of incidents with financial loss impacts in accordance with Global Operational Risk policies and Framework. Support the review and maintenance of the Canadian Banking KRI inventory. Execute Risk and Control Self Assessments (RCSA) in collaboration with Risk Advisors, Risk Owners and Global Operational Risk by conducting assessment, entry, tracking and remediation of identified issues Support compliance testing and risk assessments of business practices and/or procedures, including review of client files and workflows to verify compliance on an ongoing basis, in alignment with the RCM framework and in collaboration with Compliance. Continuously identify opportunities to improve the effectiveness of risk and compliance policies, processes, and activities. Maintain awareness of regulatory requirements, emerging risks and industry best practices in risk and compliance management. Champion a client focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge. Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions, with a specific focus on third party risks. Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct
Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? - We'd love to work with you if you have:
Bachelor degree in Business Administration or a related discipline. Minimum 3 years of experience in compliance, legal, regulatory or closely related disciplines in the Financial Services industry Strong understanding of regulations and compliance risks impacting the Bank and the importance of key mitigating controls. Experience with identifying, documenting and assessing risk and controls within the first line. Experience in delivering on regulatory compliance projects and/or programs. Excellent verbal and written skills with the ability to effectively communication with business partners at all levels of the Bank. Proven leadership and time-management skills. Excellent problem solving, critical thinking, and negotiating skills. Expert knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
