About the role
The Underwriting Team is looking for an analytical, self-starter to join the unit as a New Business Quoter and Underwriter. This role will involve analyzing the rating information, assessing the group’s specific risk characteristics as well as delivering clear, accurate and complete quotes for our Manulife Account Executives and Advisor community. Responsibilities: Accurately analyze group characteristics and input plan design detail, employee data, premium, claims and rate history in PlanLink to build an attractive, professional new business proposal within the stated turnaround time of 24 hours Possess solid understanding of group benefits in order to interpret Advisor specifications or current carrier contracts to fit Manulife’s plan design features Review final proposal output including rates to ensure accuracy and responsibility of final action. Provide underwriting decisions through clear verbal and written communications Conduct constructive negotiations using underwriting judgment and guidelines Evaluate and act on risk propositions Provide valuable underwriting and benefit recommendations to improve the clients' group benefit spend. How will you create impact? Reporting to the Small Business Underwriting Manager, the Underwriter position is accountable for analyzing group characteristics, benefits, and plan design in order to appropriately price and win new group business. The SBS team is responsible for completing more than 25,000 quotes a year ranging from 2 to 50 lives. Required Qualifications: Bilingualism (French & English), required Strong customer service skills with the ability to negotiate with the Advisors, Account Executives and Head office partners Excellent PC skills – excel, word, outlook Ability to prioritize high volumes of work and multiple priorities within set time constraints Ability to meet and work within timely deadlines Excellent attention to detail Proven mathematical skills Strong oral and written communication Relationship building Develops productive working relationships across diverse organisations to produce superior solutions Stays current on Manulife’s strategy, key priorities, and market trends Implement with excellence and a commitment to high quality Flexible hours to meet the needs of our customers across the country Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with Group Life and Health concepts, benefits, and products Previous experience in a customer service-oriented role. Previous underwriting experience is an asset, as is enrollment in or completion of LOMA, HIAA, or CEBS. The successful candidate will be required to communicate in English and French in order to support clients from various jurisdictions outside of Quebec. Referenced Salary Location CAN, Ontario - Full Time Remote Working Arrangement Remote Salary range is expected to be between $51,975.00 CAD - $86,625.00 CAD Employees also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn incentive compensation tied to business and individual performance. The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training.
