About the role

Our client is a growing real estate development and construction organization. As the business continues to expand, they are seeking an experienced finance leader to oversee financial operations while providing strategic insight that supports long-term growth.

Reporting to the executive leadership team, the Director of Finance & Accounting will lead all aspects of the company's finance and accounting functions across multiple entities and active development projects.

This role is well suited to someone who combines strong technical accounting expertise with a strategic business mindset. The successful candidate will be comfortable transitioning between detailed financial oversight, project reporting, cash flow management, lender and investor communication, and high-level financial analysis.

The ideal individual is hands-on, collaborative, and focused on building efficient financial processes that support a growing organization. We are looking for finance professionals from the construction or development industries.

Key Responsibilities Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting cycle. Oversee month-end close activities, reconciliations, journal entries, intercompany transactions, and consolidated reporting. Ensure accurate accounting across development, construction, and corporate entities. Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll coordination, indirect tax reporting, and corporate tax support. Maintain effective internal controls, financial policies, and approval procedures. Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, financial institutions, and other professional partners. Deliver timely, accurate financial statements and management reports. Prepare and monitor project budgets, cost reports, cash flow forecasts, and cost-to-complete analyses. Support construction financing, lender reporting, draw submissions, and covenant compliance. Track project profitability, commitments, funding requirements, and financial risks. Collaborate with project teams to ensure financial reporting reflects project performance and timelines. Assist with project feasibility assessments, financial models, financing packages, and scenario analysis. Oversee corporate and project-level cash flow forecasting. Develop short- and long-term financial forecasts for executive leadership. Monitor liquidity, capital requirements, and upcoming financing needs. Support banking relationships, refinancing initiatives, investor reporting, and capital planning. Provide financial insights that support operational and strategic decision-making. Lead and mentor the accounting team while coordinating with external service providers. Improve financial reporting, workflows, internal controls, and reporting systems. Help build scalable finance processes to support continued growth. Prepare meaningful financial dashboards and reporting for senior leadership. Serve as a trusted financial advisor to the executive team by translating financial information into practical business recommendations.

Qualifications CPA designation preferred. Minimum eight years of progressive accounting and finance experience. Experience within real estate development, general contracting, construction or property management. Experience preparing financial information for lenders, investors, and financing partners. Strong understanding of cash flow management, capital structure, and financing strategies. Experience working with financial institutions, lenders, and external stakeholders on financing and reporting requirements. Strong knowledge of project accounting, job costing, forecasting, and cost-to-complete reporting. Experience managing multi-entity accounting structures and intercompany transactions. Advanced financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and analytical capabilities. Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage executives, lenders, investors, consultants, and operational teams. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial modelling skills. Experience with ERP systems, construction accounting platforms, or project management software. Ability to communicate financial concepts clearly to both financial and non-financial stakeholders. Collaborative leadership style with a willingness to roll up their sleeves. Sound decision-making under pressure and the ability to manage multiple priorities. Continuous improvement mindset with a focus on efficiency, scalability, and operational excellence. Interested in leveraging AI and emerging technologies to improve efficiency, decision-making, and business processes.
