About the role

THE OPPORTUNITY The Controller will oversee and manage all aspects of the organization’s full-cycle accounting and financial operations, ensuring the delivery of timely, accurate, and insightful financial reporting. This role is responsible for leading core accounting functions including general ledger management, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, product costing, inventory valuation, variance analysis, and cash flow forecasting.

The Controller will play a key role in monitoring financial and operational performance, identifying trends, exceptions, and emerging risks, and proactively investigating and resolving material variances. This individual will ensure the integrity of financial data through the consistent application of accounting policies, internal controls, and best practices. The successful candidate will ensure financial reporting remains complete, accurate, and compliant with applicable regulatory and statutory requirements across multiple jurisdictions, while providing valuable financial insight to support business decision-making and operational performance.

RESPONSIBILITIES Execute and maintain full-cycle accounting processes across multiple operating and holding companies, including general ledger, accounts receivable and payable, payroll, product costing and inventory accounting Consolidated reporting of multiple domestic and international entities Manage the monthly accounting close process, including preparation of reconciliations and reports Ensure timely and accurate processing of transactions and reconciliations Maintain accurate product costing and margin analysis to support reliable financial reporting In liaison with the Data Manager, coordinate and oversee annual physical inventory count and related reconciliation and valuation processes Oversee payroll and associated reconciliations, year-end processes and controls Prepare annual budgets and forecasts in collaboration with, and as directed by, the Director Apply and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure consistency, accuracy, and compliance Continuous improvement of accounting operations Prepare and oversee timely preparation of monthly financial reports, including multiple operating and holding companies. Prepare variance analysis and supporting schedules to explain financial performance. Prepare year-end reports and documentation for external accountants to facilitate annual reviews and audits. Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards (ASPE), and statutory reporting and filing requirements across multiple jurisdictions. Maintain complete and accurate financial records in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS Post-Secondary degree in accounting, finance or a related business discipline Professional accounting designation (CPA) preferred 3+ years of experience in a Controller or senior financial management role 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, demonstrating increasing responsibility across financial close, reporting, cost accounting, and internal controls Experience with cost accounting, inventory valuation, and product costing Experience using Infor Visual or other similar ERP systems preferred Experience applying Theory of Constraints (TOC) concepts in a manufacturing context considered an asset

SKILLS Strong financial and accounting acumen with the ability to maintain accurate, compliant financial reporting using modern ERP systems (Infor Visual, MS Business Central, SAP Business One) Demonstrated ability to prepare financial statements and reports in accordance with applicable accounting standards, internal policies, and statutory requirements Solid management accounting understanding, including cost analysis to support operational decision making in a manufacturing environment Ability to analyze and explain variances, identify exceptions and risks, and clearly explain detailed financial results Ability to manage tight deadlines and still get the details right Able to design, apply, and monitor internal controls, and to identify and escalate control weaknesses or compliance exceptions. Demonstrated ability to coach, develop, and mentor accounting staff
