Role/Location Specific Keyera’s Northern Allowance is a tiered incentive program based on years of service, currently offered to employees working at the following locations: Grande Prairie Office, Wapiti, Simonette, Gold Creek, South Cheecham, and Fox Creek Terminal. Job Type: Permanent THE POSITION As our experienced Team Lead, Payroll, you’ll be the anchor of our payroll operations—guiding a dedicated team, ensuring compliance with complex regulations, and rolling up your sleeves to help process payroll alongside your team. You’ll be setting the standard for excellence while mentoring others to grow in their payroll careers. Your leadership will ensure that every pay cycle runs smoothly, accurately, and in full compliance with federal and provincial legislation. RESPONSIBILITIES Lead, coach, and mentor a small team of payroll professionals, fostering a positive culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Oversee and participate in the full end-to-end payroll process for multiple pay groups, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. Stay ahead of, and ensure compliance in, payroll legislation, tax requirements, and reporting obligations. Partner with HR, Finance, IT, and other stakeholders to resolve payroll-related issues and improve processes. Implement best practices, streamline workflows, and leverage payroll technology to enhance efficiency and accuracy. Serve as the escalation point for complex payroll queries, providing expert guidance and solutions. QUALIFICATIONS Education/Skills/Experience: 5 years post Payroll Leadership Professional (PLP) designation. 15+ years of direct payroll experience, with increasingly higher responsibility, including leadership. Exceptional knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation and regulations. Previous experience with US payroll and legislation. Background working with complex union bargaining agreements. Workday Canadian Payroll module experience. Experience with Paychex is also an asset. Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (especially Excel). Competence with process improvement initiatives across multiple teams. Knowledge of payroll accounting, reconciliations and financial controls. Personal Qualities: A passion for payroll as a profession, with a commitment to continuous learning and professional growth. Proven collaborative leadership experience in payroll, with a track record of developing, motivating, leading and mentoring high-performing teams. A “go-getter” who can run with unclear tasks, take initiative and collaborate with both internal and external stakeholders to find answers. Exceptional focus on accuracy and attention to detail. A customer service oriented, responsive, helpful attitude. A kind and caring team player, who values relationships. Comfortable in a fast paced, deadline driven environment. You have ensured payroll operations continue to run accurately and efficiently.
