Java Engineer
About the role
Software Guidance & Assistance, Inc., (SGA), is searching for a Java Engineer for a right to hire assignment with one of our premier financial services clients in Mississauga, ON.
Responsibilities :
Responsible for architecting, developing, and delivering enterprise-scale full stack applications. The role requires expertise in Java, modern UI frameworks, microservices, APIs, event-driven architectures, and cloud-native technologies. Drive technical direction, establish engineering standards, mentor development teams, and partner with business and technology stakeholders to deliver scalable, secure, and resilient solutions aligned with enterprise architecture and control requirements. Lead the design and development of full stack applications using Java, Spring Boot, Angular/React, microservices, and APIs. Define and drive architecture standards, engineering best practices, and modernization initiatives. Design scalable event-driven solutions leveraging Kafka and asynchronous messaging patterns. Lead technical design reviews, code reviews, and architecture governance across multiple teams. Provide technical leadership for cloud-native applications, containerization, and platform modernization efforts. Drive implementation of CI/CD, automated testing, observability, resiliency, and security best practices. Mentor engineers and foster a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement. Partner with Architecture, Product, Infrastructure, and Operations teams to deliver strategic technology solutions. Lead resolution of complex production issues, performance bottlenecks, and system scalability challenges. Ensure compliance with technology risk, security, and regulatory standards.
Required Skills:
Bachelor's degree/University degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field. 8+ years of software engineering experience with strong expertise in Java application development. Proven experience in a Lead Engineer or senior technical leadership role. Strong experience designing distributed systems, microservices, APIs, and event-driven architectures. Demonstrated ability to influence technical direction across multiple teams. Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills. Experience working in Agile environments. Technical Skills: Java (11+ preferred), Spring Boot, Spring Cloud Angular, React, TypeScript, JavaScript REST APIs, GraphQL, API Gateway Microservices, DDD, CQRS, Event-Driven Architecture Kafka, RabbitMQ, JMS Oracle, PostgreSQL, MongoDB Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift AWS, Azure, or GCP Git, Maven/Gradle, CI/CD pipelines Observability tools such as Splunk, ELK, Prometheus, Grafana OAuth2, JWT, secure development practices
Preferred Skills:
Experience in financial services or regulated environments. Exposure to GenAI, Agentic AI, MCP, and AI-driven application integration. Knowledge of cloud modernization and enterprise architecture frameworks.
