About the role

Supporting Commercial Banking Teams with Complex Transactions The Regional Director will draw on a deep understanding of commercial credit to provide coaching, mentoring and development of commercial banking staff with the goal of improving assessment and underwriting skills in the region. The position will have early and direct involvement with COI’s, prospects and customers in collaboration with account managers and analysts to support due diligence and effective deal execution with a focus on new opportunities to the Bank. Key responsibilities include collaborating closely with relationship managers, analysts and origination teams in Ontario to evaluate larger and complex lending opportunities, assisting teams in structuring credit solutions that address both client needs and the Bank’s risk requirements, advocating applications for approval committees. The ability to effectively interact with external and internal stakeholders is key. Experience in relationship management, underwriting, and adjudication in commercial banking is preferred. The successful candidate will also have a strong understanding of current market and specific industry trends and dynamics and a keen interest in understanding what drives success of mid-market companies. The position will be integral to supporting the growth of the Bank in Ontario. Your role: Act as a credit expert and trusted advisor on commercial financing transactions of $5 million and more, and on more complex financing including business transfers (LBO’s, MBO’s, M&A). Support due diligence with the deal team including direct interaction with COI’s, prospects and customers. Perform high-quality credit analysis in accordance with the standards established by the Credit Centre and make recommendations. Assist the deal team in structuring and underwriting complex credit applications focusing on effective risk mitigation while meeting client needs. Be a strong advocate with approval committees and negotiate credit terms and conditions with internal partners. Act as a resource person for credit questions for teams in Ontario. Work closely with the Ontario MFS Team Lead to support joint recommendations on complex transactions and develop strategic initiatives in the region to improve execution. Prerequisites: Bachelor's degree in a related field and seven years of relevant experience OR master's degree in a related field and five years of relevant experience OR university certificate and nine years of relevant experience Proven track record handling large, complex transactions within a commercial banking environment across a wide range of industries Customer negotiation experience in commercial banking with previous experience as an account manager/relationship manager Deep experience in commercial credit assessment with strong underwriting experience Deep experience in financial statement analysis and accounting Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to effectively collaborate with partners and make recommendations.
