We are currently seeking a competent individual to fulfill the role of Mainframe Developer to join our dynamic team for one of our major banking clients.
Hybrid: 3 days in-office Contract Duration: 08/03/2026 to 10/31/2026 Possibility of extension: Yes, based on performance and business needs Conversion to FTE: May be, based on performance and business needs
The team requires an experienced Mainframe Developer to support ongoing enhancements, maintenance, and modernization of core banking systems. This role fills a critical need for strong COBOL/JCL expertise to ensure stability, performance, and compliance across high volume, high availability host applications.

Typical Day in Role: • Analyze complex business requirements and translate them into technical specifications. • Develop, enhance, and maintain COBOL and JCL programs within host/mainframe environments. • Work with DB2, IMS, ACF, and Endevor to support secure and stable application delivery. • Participate in Agile ceremonies, sprint planning, and iterative development cycles. • Troubleshoot production issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement fixes. • Collaborate with peers, QA teams, and business stakeholders to ensure high quality releases. • Ensure compliance with security, audit, and operational standards.
Must have skills: • 10+ years of hands on IBM mainframe application development experience, including 5+ years supporting mission critical applications within Tier 1 Canadian Financial Institutions • 10+ years of hands on experience with COBOL, CICS, DB2, IMS DB, VSAM, JCL, IBM MQ and z/OS developing high volume online and batch applications • 8+ years of experience supporting Customer information (CIS), Credit Card, VISA Debit Card, ABM/ATM, OR Payments, including migration, conversion, modernization or regulatory initiatives • 5+ years of experience integrating Mainframe applications with distributed platforms using Technologies such as IBM MQ, XML, SOA, IBM DataPower and APM • 5+ years of experience performing system design, coding, unit testing, integration testing, UAT, production implementation and level 3 production support throughout the SDLC Nice to have: • Experience supporting large scale conversion, merger, migration, or platform modernization initiatives • Experience with mainframe productivity, debugging, scheduling, and change management tools such as CA-Jobtrac, CHANGEMAN, XPEDITER, INTERTEST, FILEAID, or similar utilities • Experience working in Agile delivery teams supporting high volume banking applications Soft Skills Required: • Excellent problem solving and analytical abilities. • Strong multi tasking skills and ability to manage concurrent initiatives. • Reliable, proactive, results oriented, and customer focused. • High attention to detail and strong teamwork orientation. • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships.
Education: • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. • Additional mainframe or cloud certifications are an asset.
