Director of Financial Operations
About the role
Our Client Our client is a private equity-backed, rapidly growing service organization operating in a multi-entity environment across Canada. The company has experienced significant growth through acquisitions and continues to scale its operations. This role reports directly to the CFO and works closely with senior leadership, including the CEO.
The organization operates with a centralized shared services model and employs a large, geographically distributed workforce. The Director of Financial Operations will play a critical role in supporting growth, integrations, and operational excellence.
You must be willing to work in-office in Mississauga 4 days a week. CPA is preferred but not required.
Responsibilities
Financial Operations Leadership Act as the primary owner of day-to-day financial operations, including: Invoicing and billing Accounts Receivable and collections Payroll processing in coordination with HR Accounts Payable and vendor payments Banking and treasury activities Lead and manage a centralized financial operations team supporting multiple regional business units Own accounting-operations involvement in ERP onboarding for newly acquired entities Ensure timely, accurate, and consistent execution of transactional finance activities across all entities within a controlled, scalable operating model
Shared Services & Cross-Functional Support Operate and continuously improve a centralized shared services model Partner with internal stakeholders across Sales, Operations, HR, Legal, IT, and regional teams to support business needs Develop, maintain, and enforce clear policies, procedures, and documentation Provide people leadership across regions, with direct oversight of shared services teams (AP, AR/collections, payroll)
Integrations & Business Growth Support Lead financial operations and system integrations for acquired businesses Support transitions of new entities onto standardized systems and processes Ensure continuity of payroll, billing, and cash management during integration periods
Legal, Risk & Insurance Coordination Oversee finance-related aspects of contract administration Manage insurance administration and claims from a financial operations perspective Support enterprise risk management through strong controls and documentation
Process Improvement & Controls Identify and implement opportunities to improve efficiency, scalability, and automation Strengthen internal controls across all financial operations Support audit and compliance requirements
Requirements 10+ years of progressive experience in accounting or financial operations Proven experience leading teams within a multi-entity or shared services environment Strong understanding of payroll, AP/AR, billing, and treasury processes and controls Experience supporting integrations, acquisitions, or major business transitions Hands-on operator with strong process orientation Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills Demonstrated people leadership and team development capabilities
