About the role
The Foundation is happy to announce the opening for Senior Director, Impact Investing. The Senior Director is responsible for all aspects of CHF’s Impact Investing program, including identifying, cultivating, and managing impact investing opportunities and deploying capital in support of our mission. Reporting to the Chief Impact Officer, this position plays a collaborative and integral role in advancing the Foundation’s mission and strategies, while modeling CHF’s commitment to equity and racial justice.
Alongside our traditional grantmaking, CHF leverages impact investing to advance its mission. Since 2017, CHF has partnered with eighty-five nonprofit and for-profit organizations to invest over $150 million in impact investments using various investment structures. Annually, the Foundation expects to execute 15-20 impact investing partnerships and to invest $10-$30 million.
The Colorado Health Foundation is a statewide philanthropic organization that champions the overall health and well-being of every Coloradan by advocating for and investing in solutions and policies that drive health equity and racial justice. Every day, we collaborate with organizations and communities across the state to break down the many systemic inequities that stand in the way of health. Our work is guided by three cornerstones that are “must-haves” in all we do:
- We do everything with the intent of creating health equity.
- We serve Coloradans who have less power, privilege, and income, and prioritize Coloradans of color.
- We are informed by the community and those we exist to serve.
Candidates will have a personal commitment and connection with our mission and cornerstones; work well in ambiguity and manage change; and proactively identify opportunities to advance our mission while remaining grounded in the day-to-day responsibilities. They will need to be able to apply principles of health equity and racial justice across all of their work. The Senior Director will lead and support all phases of CHF’s impact investing work, including:
- Underwrite and manage diverse investments (grants, loan guarantees, PRIs, MRIs) in line with CHF’s mission and Impact Investment Policy Statement.
- Build and maintain relationships with consultants, intermediaries, and legal/financial partners.
- Collaborate with program officers to identify high-impact opportunities.
- Lead and facilitate CHF’s Impact Investing Workgroup to approve and/or expand community partnerships.
- Monitor portfolio performance and address issues.
- Oversee annual updates to the Investment Policy Statement.
- Design and deliver training and host convenings to advance field thought leadership.
- Share relevant learnings with CHF staff and board members, as well as peer foundation staff and boards interested in learning more about impact investing.
Ideal candidates will:
- Embody and model our mission, cornerstones, culture, and organizational structure as a member of the CHF leadership team
- Bring deep expertise in impact investing and management, with a demonstrated track record of sourcing, structuring, underwriting, and managing investments that generate both measurable social impact and financial returns.
- Be a strategic leader and systems thinker who identifies emerging opportunities, shapes impact investment strategy, and deploys capital to advance health equity and long-term community impact across Colorado.
- Thrive in an interdependent environment, partnering across teams and disciplines to align priorities, integrate diverse perspectives, and maximize the Foundation’s resources, relationships, and influence.
- Build trusted relationships across sectors, engaging fund managers, community organizations, intermediaries, investors, and public-sector leaders to advance shared goals.
- Demonstrate a commitment to health equity and racial justice by integrating inclusive practices and the Foundation’s priorities into investment strategy, decision-making, and relationship management.
- Communicate complex financial concepts clearly to diverse audiences, serving as a trusted advisor to executives and boards while contributing to the impact investing field.
- Lead and develop a high-performing team, fostering accountability, continuous learning, coaching, and organizational capacity for impact investing.
