We are hiring for this position out of our Toronto office. Successful candidates who apply outside of these areas will be expected to relocate and reside in a location that is within a commutable distance.
Role Overview
The Senior Funder is responsible for leading complex commercial mortgage funding and closing activities across a diverse portfolio, including construction CMHC-insured, and multi-entity transactions. Acting as a senior subject matter expert, the role ensures accurate and timely funding execution, compliance with credit, legal, and operational requirements, and security monitoring, and risk mitigation activities. The Senior Funder also supports projects and report monitoring, contributes to process improvements and operational initiatives, and provides guidance and mentorship to junior team members.
About the day-to-day
- Lead and execute the most complex or high-risk commercial mortgage transactions (e.g., construction, letters of credit, multi-entity structures, syndicate, time-sensitive closings), ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and alignment with credit, legal, and operational requirements.
- Support funding activities across all commercial loan types, stepping in on escalated files or peak volume periods to ensure continuity of delivery and adherence to service standards.
- Perform in-depth reviews of loan setup, documentation, and understanding of entity structures, applying advanced judgement to ensure alignment with credit intent and identifying discrepancies or risks.
- Manage complex financial disbursements (cost-to-complete, tax holdbacks, interest adjustments) and system entries, ensuring accuracy and resolving system-related issues.
- Support ongoing compliance activities including AML Awareness, monthly monitoring of security follow-up items, and management of PPSA renewals.
- Identify, assess, and escalate risks ensuring continued enforceability and audit readiness.
- Contribute to or lead special initiatives, including process enhancements, workflow optimization to improve efficiency, and controls.
- Provide day-to-day guidance to junior funders, assist with onboarding and training, act as a subject matter resource to promote consistency in execution across the team.
About the Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in commercial mortgage funding
- Post-secondary education in finance, business, accounting, or a related field
- Bilingual (French/English) is an asset
- Strong understanding of commercial loan documentation and security structures
- Experience funding complex commercial transactions and syndicated deals is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of lending regulations, PPSA registrations, and commercial credit processes
- Excellent attention to detail and organization skills
- Strong communication and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple transactions in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience working with legal documentation and external counsel, construction draws.

About the work environment
Peoples Group offers a flexible and hybrid work environment. In this role you will work a combination of in-office and remotely from home. Typically, you'll be working regular business hours, Monday to Friday between 8:00am and 4:30pm with flexibility around start/end times.

Peoples Group is pleased to offer employees a competitive annual salary plus a discretionary profit share opportunity. Salary for this position will vary between $70,000 and $80,000 per year depending on the knowledge, skills, abilities and experience that the chosen candidate possesses.
