As a Legal Accounting Assistant, you'll contribute to every stage of the accounting cycle, from trust accounting and legal billing to banking, reporting, and financial administration. Key Responsibilities · Support the Controller with day-to-day accounting operations and provide backup for key accounting functions. · Process client bill payments, trust receipts, general receipts, cheques, credit card payments, EFTs, wire transfers, bank drafts, and Interac e-Transfers. · Maintain accurate client and trust accounting records in accordance with Law Society of British Columbia requirements. · Prepare and review legal billing, fee allocations, GST/PST, disbursements, and anticipated disbursements. · Process third-party legal disbursements, including BC Online, LTSA, and Econveyance. · Prepare deposits, trust and general cheques, banking documentation, vendor invoices, and vendor payments. · Assist with trust accounting, trust transfers, reconciliations, month-end reporting, financial reporting, and year-end preparation. · Collaborate with lawyers, legal assistants, conveyancers, and administrative staff to ensure timely and accurate financial operations.
Qualifications · Experience in bookkeeping, accounting, or legal accounting is preferred. · Experience in a law firm or other professional services environment is considered a strong asset. · Experience with LEAP accounting software is highly desirable. Experience with other legal accounting software such as Unity, PCLaw, Soluno, or Clio will also be considered. · Working knowledge of legal trust accounting principles. · Strong Microsoft Excel and computer skills. · Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and sound judgment. · A collaborative mindset, strong initiative, and a willingness to learn detailed accounting procedures.
