Summary Westerkirk Capital Inc. (‘WCI’), a private investment company based in Victoria, BC is seeking an Associate Portfolio Manager (APM). The organization is a single-family office investment enterprise managing assets via internal direct and third-party/external managers across a variety of portfolios and asset classes including fixed income, public equity, private equity, hedge funds, infrastructure, and real estate.

Opportunity The APM will contribute to the build-out and management of a long-term oriented Canadian equity portfolio, directly impacting the overall investment performance of the firm. The focus of the successful candidate will be on performing fundamental equity research and supporting the overall management of the portfolio (construction, monitoring and risk management). The APM will create detailed financial projections and valuation analysis to support investment recommendations, underpinned by proprietary fundamental analysis. It is expected that the APM will cover between 15 to 20 Canadian stocks in this role.

Accountabilities Perform in-depth fundamental company and industry analysis, supported by insights from company filings, broker research and industry reports, as well as meetings with management, industry experts, and sell-side analysts. Create detailed financial projections and valuation analysis to support investment recommendations for assigned stocks. Present and support investment recommendations to the Portfolio Manager and Investment Committee. Partner with the Portfolio Manager in developing and maintaining quantitative investment tools. Contribute to portfolio management decisions (construction, monitoring and risk management). Understand client and portfolio investment goals, preferences, and risk tolerances. Develop and utilize external networks to source and diligence potential investments. Develop internal and external research resources to support recommendations. Research and incorporate ESG, impact and other non-financial considerations into investment recommendations. Maintain coverage (periodic updates, price targets, etc.) on assigned industries and companies. Stay current and provide updates on investment industry trends. Assume additional projects and responsibilities as required.

Qualifications Passion for investing and active fundamental stock selection. Proven track record of 8+ years of experience in fundamental equity research. Expertise in fundamental analysis and financial modelling. Expert-level user of Excel and Bloomberg. Experience investing in and covering companies in a broad range of industries. Understanding of thematic investment trends and impact investing. CFA charterholder preferred. MBA or other advanced finance-related education considered an asset. Programming experience (e.g., Python) and knowledge of AI tools considered an asset. Able to travel 2 to 4 times per year. Skills Able to maintain a balanced investment perspective and show humility – can re-evaluate recommendations. Capable of working independently to deliver high-quality analysis and reports. Intellectual curiosity, strong judgment, and demonstrated history of accountability. Able to cultivate partnerships and work collaboratively in a team environment. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Proven ability to use the utmost discretion when handling confidential and sensitive material. Commitment to high ethical standards as well as a positive, cooperative attitude.
