Job Description The Assessor I position prepares all assessments of multiple use property in assigned area of the County of Grande Prairie and Urban Municipalities, primarily farmland and residential, with some commercial. This position is responsible for the inspection of properties within their geographic area, working with MLS, and RFIs. This is a junior-level position for those with their Diploma in Appraisal and Assessment (preferred) or working towards completing their diploma along with directly related assessment experience. Our Assessor I position is involved within the department by gaining knowledge, experience, and skills associated with the preparation of assessments. This would include working towards a full understanding of the regulations associated with the preparation of assessments, learning cost manuals, dealing with blueprints and construction styles. This position also deals with the public and responds to calls and inquiries. Supervision and mentoring are provided by intermediate and senior assessors. This position may be assigned more senior tasks such as CARBs, LARBs, some analysis, and projects as required.

Job Duties and Responsibilities: • Inspects and prepares assessments for residential, some commercial and farm properties to maintain standards consistent with the MGA and associated regulations. Interprets and applies any legislation or regulations that relate to property assessments within the assigned areas. • Has an understanding of depreciation and how it pertains to market value. This includes understanding of blueprints, quality, and structure codes of building types. • Communicates with ratepayers to explain the assessment process and assist with requests for information. Explains technical issues and inquiries in a way the general public will understand. • Prepares assessment data for inputting into computer and in a format that is understandable to the Assessment System Operator. This would also include data entry and coding in the CAMA system (or both the annual designated geographic areas and re-inspection cycle). • Conducts cash-in-lieu appraisals for the Planning and Transportation & Utilities departments as required; prepares reports for other departments as required. • Assists senior staff with preparation of assessments and defense of LARB assessment appeals. • Reviews MLS/Pillar 9 data, attaching photos and updating assessments, as needed. Qualifications Education and Experience Requirements: • Working towards a Diploma in Appraisal and Assessment and has related experience, or a degree or diploma in a related field. • Post-secondary diploma in Assessment and Appraisal (preferrable). • Valid Class 5 driver’s license and acceptable drivers abstract. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: • Knowledge of the County of Grande Prairie area would be an asset. • Ability to travel, particularly in rural areas, to conduct inspections. • Basic knowledge of relevant legislation. • Ability to read and interpret regulations and the MGA. • Strong computer skills and experience working with Microsoft Office programs. • Ability to occasionally work long and irregular hours to meet deadlines or attend meetings. • Ability to lift/carry files/boxes up to 40 lbs. • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. • Tact, diplomacy and professionalism skills when dealing with public or internally. Monday to Friday from 8:30 to 4:30, with some overtime as required. Pay Rate: $46.79 - $55.04 Posting Closing Date: This posting will be open until July 31, 2026 until 11:59 pm Mountain Time.
