This role sits within a dynamic group benefits underwriting environment where analytical thinking and sound risk judgment directly influence business growth and client outcomes. The successful candidate will evaluate group insurance plans, pricing structures, and claims data to support accurate and competitive underwriting decisions. They will play a key role in assessing risk, shaping proposals, and helping secure or retain group business across diverse client portfolios. Working closely with sales and account teams, the role requires clear communication and confident negotiation of underwriting terms. It offers the opportunity to contribute to a large-scale employee benefits business serving thousands of plan sponsors. Accountabilities: Analyze group characteristics, benefit structures, and plan designs to support underwriting decisions for new and existing business opportunities. Assess premium and claims data to accurately price risk and ensure financial discipline in group benefits offerings. Prepare and communicate underwriting decisions clearly through both written and verbal formats to internal stakeholders and sales teams. Conduct negotiations using established guidelines and sound underwriting judgment to balance risk and competitiveness. Provide value-added recommendations to optimize plan design and enhance client outcomes while maintaining profitability. Requirements: Post-secondary education in business, mathematics, actuarial studies, or a related analytical field. Experience in group insurance or group benefits underwriting, with understanding of products and market dynamics. Strong analytical and numerical skills, with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word. Ability to collaborate effectively with sales and account management teams in a client-focused environment. Strong decision-making skills, balancing risk management, financial objectives, and client needs. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven setting with strong attention to detail. Professional certifications such as CEBS or GBA are considered an asset.
