Senior Advisor Derivatives And Financial Valuation
About the role
The position is available in Montreal or Toronto, with a French language requirement for the Montreal's office. A career as a Senior Advisor – Derivatives and Financial Valuation within the ETF & Specialized Operations team at National Bank means playing a key role in ensuring the accurate valuation of complex financial instruments held in mutual funds and exchange‑traded funds (ETFs), as well as providing financial support related to financial statements.
Through your expertise in derivatives, strong financial acumen, and leadership, you contribute directly to the quality of valuations, the mitigation of financial and accounting risks, and the evolution of valuation practices in a regulated and transforming environment.
Your job
Act as a derivatives and financial valuation expert for the sector
Ensure the valuation of complex financial instruments held in funds and ETFs (listed and OTC derivatives, structured and hybrid instruments)
Define, document, and continuously improve valuation methodologies for financial instruments
Provide specialized financial support for matters related to financial statements, audits, and regulatory disclosures
Serve as a technical reference for valuation issues, accounting interpretation, and professional judgment
Participate in the launch and onboarding of new funds, including mutual funds and exchange‑traded funds
Actively contribute to the implementation, optimization, and governance of ETF valuation processes
Collaborate closely with internal teams and external partners
Anticipate financial and operational issues, identify risks, and propose structured and preventive solutions
Design and maintain robust control frameworks related to valuation activities
Participate in large‑scale projects and transformation initiatives within the sector
Act as a mentor and contribute to the development of team expertise

Within the Investment Fund Administration and Tax Activities sector, you are part of the ETF & Specialized Operations team and report to the team manager.

Prerequisite
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or a related field, or any combination of equivalent education and relevant experience
Minimum of 5 years of experience in derivatives, financial appraisals or related functions
Strong knowledge of derivatives, financial markets, and valuation methodologies
Solid understanding of finance and financial accounting, ideally in an investment fund environment
Ability to exercise a high level of professional judgment in complex situations
Leadership, rigor, autonomy, and a strong sense of accountability
Excellent analytical skills and critical thinking focused on problem solving
