Title: Big Data Engineer Location: Toronto, ON (Hybrid) Duration: 24+ Months
Job Summary: We are seeking an experienced Senior Big Data Engineer with 8+ years of software development experience and a strong background in building scalable data processing solutions. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in Spark, Scala, Hive, Hadoop ecosystem technologies, and SQL, with a proven track record of designing, developing, and optimizing large-scale data platforms and pipelines.
Key Responsibilities: Design, develop, and maintain high-performance data processing applications using Apache Spark and Scala. Build and optimize ETL/data engineering workflows for large-scale data platforms. Develop, manage, and tune Hive queries and data models for analytics and reporting. Work with various components of the Hadoop ecosystem including HDFS, YARN, Hive, and related technologies. Write efficient and complex SQL queries to support data transformation, validation, and reporting requirements. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Data Architects, Analysts, and Application Developers to deliver data-driven solutions. Troubleshoot performance issues and implement best practices for scalability, reliability, and maintainability. Participate in code reviews and ensure adherence to development standards and best practices. Support production deployments and resolve data platform issues as needed.
Required Skills & Qualifications: 8+ years of software development experience. Strong hands-on experience with Apache Spark and Scala. Extensive experience working with Hive and large-scale data processing frameworks. Strong understanding of the Hadoop ecosystem and distributed computing concepts. Advanced proficiency in SQL and database query optimization. Experience developing and maintaining enterprise-grade data pipelines and applications. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
