The Position

This is a temporary full-time position from August 10th, 2026 to December 24th, 2026, Monday to Friday 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, based out of our Support Office, with the possibility of extension. The Accounting Assistant reports to the Financial Controller and supports the accounting team with payables, receivables, collections, and other financial activities. This position also assists with administrative duties and reception coverage. The conscientious Accounting Assistant acts with integrity, is open to growth, lives our purpose, cultivates teamwork, and demonstrates an extraordinary effort to empower individuals with diverse abilities and their families to grow, succeed, and belong.

  1. Ensure all invoices and employee reimbursements are paid on time and accurately
  2. Assemble, review, and verify credit card statements and receipts
  3. Post cash, cheque, and electronic payments from customers and create weekly deposit
  4. Responsible for petty cash functions, bank and credit card accounts reconciliations
  5. Provide reception coverage as required to meet the needs of the business
  6. Support Finance team  in compliance with financial policies and processes
  7. Keep complete transaction records and files appropriately and accurately
  8. Record daily transactions in accounts payable and accounts receivable related activities
  9. Fulfill reception duties including answering, screening, and transferring inbound phone calls
  10. Perform general clerical duties including filing, photocopying, and mailing
  11. Ensure a clean and organized reception area, storage room, and office supply room
  12. Perform other job-related activities as required

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Enrolled full or part time at an ELIGIBLE Canadian college or university and following a course of study that leads to a degree, diploma, or certificate
  2. 1+ years of experience in Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable. Experience in the non-profit sector is an asset
  3. Experience supporting various departments
  4. Knowledge of accounting ERP system is an asset
  5. Intermediate experience in Microsoft Office 365 including Excel and Word
  6. Clear Police Information Check and Intervention Record Check

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA 

This position is funded through the Employment and Social Development Canada's Student Work Placement Program which requires students to be enrolled (completing program requirements) for at least the first 30 days of this internship, hold Canadian citizenship, Permanent Residency, or refugee status, interested in entrepreneurship and/or seeking alternatives to 'traditional' job placements. If you have previously been funded by VFC (either with our organization or another), you must have completed VFC training.

COMPENSATION $19 TO $21.00 PER HOUR DEPENDING ON EXPERIENCE.
