Global Banking and Markets

Global Banking and Markets (GBM) conducts the Bank’s wholesale banking and capital markets business with corporate, government and institutional investor clients. GBM is a full-service wholesale bank and investment dealer in Canada and Mexico and offers a range of products and services in the U.S., Latin America and in select markets in Europe and Asia-Pacific.

More specifically, GBM provides clients with: corporate lending; transaction banking (including payments, trade finance and cash management); investment banking (including corporate finance and mergers & acquisitions); fixed income and equity underwriting, sales, trading and research; prime services (prime brokerage and stock lending); foreign exchange sales and trading; commodity derivatives; and collateral management.

Function Overview

Scotiabank’s Corporate Finance Advisory team sits at the intersection of banking and capital markets. Our team advises corporate clients globally on capital structure, financing strategy, credit positioning, rating agency process facilitation and outcome management, as well as strategic decisions across valuation, M&A, shareholder returns, and thematic market and sector trends.

We partner with Corporate & Investment Banking sector teams, Debt Capital Markets, Equity Capital Markets and other product areas to provide in-depth analysis, drive idea generation, strengthen financing recommendations and help identify ancillary business opportunities.

Working within the Capital Structure & Ratings Advisory pillar, analysts develop deep expertise in credit, ratings advisory, and capital structure while progressively expanding their capabilities into broader strategic finance advisory. The role combines rigorous analytical training with meaningful client exposure, working closely with senior bankers, corporate clients and rating agencies on complex financing and capital structure decisions.

The team is recognized for its technical expertise, collaborative approach and differentiated advice across complex capital structure and financing situations.

Position Highlights

Members of the team enjoy a stimulating and challenging work environment in which they will be involved in a broad range of transactions. The job is responsible for supporting senior members of the team in the generation of new business opportunities, as well as successfully executing.

At the early stages of their career, the candidate will focus on financial modeling, research, credit ratings analysis, capital structure benchmarking and assisting in preparing client presentations. As the individual’s career progresses, the candidate will take on increased responsibilities on live assignments and participating in business development under the guidance of senior group members. On any given project, you will interact with other departments of the firm such as Corporate Banking, Investment Banking sector teams, Mergers & Acquisitions, Debt Capital Markets, and Equity Capital Markets, gaining knowledge and understanding of both investment banking and capital markets. Scotiabank also brings junior team members in contact with senior cross-functional team members and clients at the earliest possible stage, allowing them to gain experience in managing and cultivating relationships.

What You'll Do

Evaluate the strategic and financial needs of corporate clients Completion of credit rating analysis using external credit rating methodologies Support analysis of strategic financing alternatives across debt and equity markets Evaluate capital structure alternatives to support long-term shareholder value Assess financing implications of capital allocation decisions including acquisitions, dividends and share repurchases Synthesize company, industry, ratings and financial analysis to help generate thoughtful solutions and identify new business opportunities Facilitate the execution of ratings advisory mandates including supporting drafting of rating agency presentations and marketing materials for transactions, liaising with credit rating agencies, cross-functional deal team members, and external clients Build long-term relationships with clients and collaborate across stakeholders throughout the banking and capital markets platform Deliver consistent, high-quality work with strong attention to detail

What You'll Bring

A positive, proactive, and intellectually curious mindset Commercial mindset with strong problem-solving abilities Ability to integrate credit, financing and strategic considerations into client recommendations Prior experience in investment banking, capital markets, rating agencies, equity or credit research is a plus (as are professional designations such as CFA, CPA, etc.) Bachelors or Masters Degree in Business, Finance, Math, Engineering, Economics Proven record of outstanding academic and extracurricular achievement

Work Arrangement

This position is an onsite role, with the expectation that you will work 5 days a week in the office. Please note that this is subject to change based on the needs of the business. #GBM
