About the role
A role as an Analyst in the Loan Structuring & Syndication (“LSS”) team at National Bank of Canada Capital Markets (“NBCCM”) offers the opportunity to actively contribute across the full lifecycle of syndicated bank loans. The Analyst will support transactions from origination through syndication and financial close. We are expanding our team across Canada and are currently hiring for four positions: Project Finance roles in Calgary and Toronto, a Montreal-based Quebec Corporate Banking role, and a Commercial Banking Coverage role that may be based in Montreal, Toronto, or Calgary. In this role, you will join a high-performing, collaborative team and gain exposure to a broad range of capital markets products within NBCCM. This position is well suited to individuals seeking to build a career in an entrepreneurial, fast-paced, and dynamic environment.
Your Job As an Analyst, you will be responsible for: Conducting financial modelling and comparable transaction analysis to support the development of robust and marketable financing structures Preparing pitch books and marketing materials for existing and prospective clients, including financing terms, syndication strategies, capital structure considerations, and benchmarking analysis Supporting the syndication and distribution process for transactions across the Canadian and U.S. markets, including coordinating lender outreach, managing virtual data rooms, and facilitating lender Q&A Collaborating with internal stakeholders and developing relationships with corporate banking and syndication teams across financial institutions Maintaining internal databases, including comparable transactions, league tables, and marketing materials Your Team National Bank of Canada (“NBC”) is one of Canada’s leading financial institutions, employing over 33,000 people in knowledge-intensive roles and recognized for its commitment to diversity and inclusion. The Corporate & Investment Banking (“CIB”) group comprises over 400 professionals across Montreal, Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver, and New York. The Loan Structuring & Syndication team is a group of approximately 25+ professionals responsible for the origination, structuring, pricing, and distribution of syndicated loans. The team works closely with internal partners and external stakeholders, including clients, coverage teams, syndicate lenders, credit adjudicators, and agency groups. LSS has demonstrated strong growth in recent years, driven by increased deal flow and a leading position in Quebec, as well as a top 3 ranking within the Canadian syndicated loan market for new money. NBCCM is consistently ranked among the top institutions in Canadian project finance and within the top 10 in North American league tables, providing analysts with exposure to a leading platform with a strong track record of execution and market presence. Our Project Finance coverage includes renewable energy, energy infrastructure, digital infrastructure, and general infrastructure. With four openings available across Canada, this is an exciting opportunity to join our growing LSS team in Calgary, Toronto, and Montreal.
Basic Requirements Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., Business, Finance, Economics) Professional designation (e.g., CFA, CPA) considered an asset Strong interest in finance, with a particular focus on credit and lending Excellent analytical and quantitative skills, with a solid understanding of financial transactions and associated risks Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver under tight timelines in a fast-paced environment For our Toronto and Calgary roles, fluency in English is required; proficiency in French is considered an asset. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) Experience with Bloomberg, Refinitiv, CapIQ and artificial intelligence tools are considered as an asset
