Description
Our client, a stable and relationship-driven Ontario-based mutual insurance company, is building a brand-new in-house actuarial team and is seeking a P&C Actuary to become its second actuarial hire. This is a rare opportunity for an ambitious actuarial professional who wants broad exposure across multiple disciplines while helping build an actuarial function from the ground up.
As a newly created position, you'll work alongside the Senior Actuary to transition actuarial services from an external consulting firm to an internal team. You'll gain hands-on experience across pricing, forecasting, reserving, capital management, reinsurance, product development, and strategic initiatives while partnering closely with Underwriting, Claims, Finance, and senior leadership. Unlike most actuarial roles that focus on a single discipline, this position offers exceptional breadth, significant visibility, and a genuine opportunity to help shape the future of the actuarial department as it grows.
Why Join:
Build Something New Join a newly created actuarial team and help establish an in-house actuarial function. Opportunity to become the second actuarial hire, with a clear path to increased responsibility as the team grows. Help shape actuarial processes, models, and best practices from the ground up. Broad Actuarial Exposure Strong emphasis on pricing, forecasting, profitability analysis, and business decision support. Gain experience across reserving, capital management, reinsurance, product development, and regulatory reporting. Work directly with senior leadership on strategic initiatives that influence company performance. Professional Growth Strong mentorship from an experienced Senior Actuary. Significant opportunity to expand beyond a specialized pricing or reserving role. Excellent career progression as the actuarial department continues to grow. Financial Rewards Competitive salary: $110,000–140,000 (flexible based on experience). Annual bonus. Employer-paid benefits. Exceptional pension matching. Work-Life Balance 100% remote. Flexible, results-oriented culture. Recognized as one of Canada's Top Employers.
Responsibilities Support pricing, forecasting, reserving, and actuarial analysis across Personal and Commercial Lines. Develop and maintain pricing models, rate indications, profitability studies, and predictive models. Contribute to reserve reviews, capital management, reinsurance analysis, and regulatory reporting. Support underwriting strategy, product development, and portfolio performance initiatives. Develop analytical tools using SQL, R, Python, Excel, and Power BI. Partner with Underwriting, Claims, Finance, and senior leadership to provide actuarial insights that support business decisions. Clearly communicate actuarial recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Qualifications FCAS, ACAS, or near designation with relevant Canadian P&C experience. 5+ years of Canadian P&C actuarial experience. Strong background in pricing, forecasting, predictive modelling, or profitability analysis. Exposure to reserving, capital management, ORSA, or regulatory reporting is an asset but not essential. Proficiency with SQL plus experience with R, Python, Excel, and Power BI. Strong communication skills and a desire to broaden into a strategic actuarial leadership role.
