About the role
As a Maersk Customs Services Lead, you will lead a team of customs professionals responsible for delivering compliant, efficient, and customer-focused customs clearance services. You will play a critical role in driving operational excellence, developing talent, managing compliance risk, and ensuring a seamless customer experience while supporting Maersk's integrated logistics strategy. How you create impact Lead, coach, and develop a team of customs professionals to ensure strong knowledge and adherence to Customs Brokerage regulations and internal SOPs Monitor team performance against standards, KPIs, and departmental objectives, including regular audits of shipment documentation, accounting, and filing accuracy Proactively manage exception and problem files, implementing corrective actions to mitigate risk and prevent service failures Issue clear work instructions to ensure timely and orderly file flow across release, billing, post‑entry review, and audit activities Identify training needs and development opportunities; partner with stakeholders to build targeted training plans and strengthen team capability Review and validate customs documentation for accuracy, including country of origin/export, importer of record (IOR), terms of sale, valuation, and tariff classification, ensuring full compliance with regulatory and federal requirements Perform daily follow‑ups on documentation discrepancies, demonstrating strong troubleshooting skills and effective written and verbal communication with customers, overseas origins, and internal teams Escalate unresolved issues, compliance risks, or systemic gaps in a timely manner before they materially impact customers or Maersk operations Collaborate closely with Operations, Compliance, Finance, Technology, and other branches to deliver consistent, high‑quality customs services and seamless customer experience Requirements 2–5 years of experience in customs brokerage. Prior supervisory or team lead experience preferred. Strong knowledge of CBSA regulations, customs clearance procedures, tariff classification, valuation requirements, and low-value shipment processing. CCS designation and/or CBSA Customs Broker License (LCB) preferred, or equivalent industry experience. Experience with CW1 customs software; familiarity with the CARM portal is an asset. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment. Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills. Detail-oriented with a strong focus on accuracy and compliance. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced operational environment. Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel. Pay Range: $70,000.00 - $80,000.00 *The above stated pay range is the anticipated starting salary range for the position.
