About the role
Build something people love Wealthsimple is Canada’s leading financial innovator. The company offers a full suite of simple, sophisticated financial products across managed investing, do-it-yourself trading, cryptocurrency, tax filing, spending and saving. Wealthsimple currently serves more than 4 million Canadians and holds over $125 billion in assets under administration. The company was founded in 2014 by a team of financial experts and technology entrepreneurs, and is headquartered in Toronto, Canada. We're proud of what we've built — and we're just getting started. Read our Culture Manual and learn more about how we work. About the team The Social Impact team sits within People & Comms, and is responsible for furthering Wealthsimple's mission through community-driven initiatives. That means leading execution of our social impact strategy — a multi-year effort to build financial confidence among young Canadians — in close partnership with Product, Marketing, and Communications. The team also oversees Wealthsimple Foundation and our employee resource groups (ERGs). It's a small team with a broad mandate, and we measure ourselves on whether our programs are practical, impactful, and actually used, not just well-intentioned. About the role This is a ~16 month, full-time contract covering a parental leave. You'll step into a role at an interesting inflection point: a new strategy has been set, but not yet fully operationalized. You'll have the opportunity to shape the foundations while driving the day-to-day execution. You'll be the person making sure Wealthsimple's social impact work actually happens: building the cross-functional relationships and workflows needed to get initiatives off the ground in partnership Product, Marketing, and Communications, while also keeping the more established parts of the mandate — Wealthsimple Foundation and ERG oversight — running smoothly. You'll manage the small team that supports this work, so it doesn't stall while the permanent Director is away. What you'll do Lead execution of Wealthsimple's social impact strategy, partnering closely with Product, Marketing, and Comms to move initiatives from concept to reality Build strong cross-functional relationships quickly, and put in place the workflows and processes needed to keep multi-team work progressing as the strategy matures Support early-stage community partnership building for our community-led grant-making work, with timelines that flex alongside the product roadmap Oversee Wealthsimple's ERGs — managing the team member who supports ERGs, tracks outcomes and helps to communicate their impact within the broader company Manage Wealthsimple Foundation administration, including interim governance matters, the annual audit (with support from our accounting team), fund disbursement oversight, and existing community commitments Manage and support the social impact team, providing day-to-day leadership so their work continues without disruption Use AI to drive efficiency in reporting, budgeting, and workflow management across ERGs, the Foundation, and the broader social impact program Skills you bring 8+ years of experience in social impact, corporate foundations, community investment, or a related field, including experience operationalizing a new strategy or program from the ground up Proven experience managing charitable foundation administration, including financial reporting, governance, and disbursement oversight (or a close equivalent, such as a corporate giving program) A track record of leading cross-functional initiatives with product, marketing, and communications teams, with the project management skills to keep multi-team work on schedule Comfort working in ambiguity — you can help finish designing a strategy while executing on it at the same time Experience building and managing external partnerships with community organizations, nonprofits, or similar Experience managing people and/or overseeing distributed teams or programs, such as ERGs, volunteer networks, or junior staff Experience managing budgets and tracking spend against execution — you know how to keep multiple workstreams financially accountable, not just delivered Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience presenting to senior leadership or a board Nice to have Experience at a tech or fintech company, with meaningful product exposure — this matters more than a financial services background specifically Experience with corporate social responsibility (CSR), particularly liaising between social impact work and core business functions Familiarity with grant-making processes or microgrant program design Experience with youth-focused programming or youth engagement strategy Exposure to ERG program design or employee engagement initiatives Experience using AI tools to drive operational or reporting efficiency Who you are You build trust and momentum quickly — you know how to get buy-in across teams that don't report to you You communicate clearly with senior stakeholders and know how to bring people along You're as comfortable in the details of a Foundation audit as you are shaping a cross-functional roadmap You take ownership without waiting for the full picture — you're comfortable making progress on a strategy that's still being finished You lead people with care, even for a short window — your team doesn't feel unsupported because this is a contract role You genuinely care about the communities this work is meant to serve — this isn't just program management to you Why Wealthsimple? 🌸 Top-tier health benefits and life insurance 📈 Long-term group savings with employer match, through Wealthsimple for Business 🌴 20 vacation days, 4 wellness days, and unlimited sick and mental health days per year ✈️ 90 days away: work outside Canada for up to 90 days per year 👥 Employee resource groups, including Rainbow (2SLGBTQ), Women of WS, and Black at WS 🌎 We are a hybrid team with over 1,500 employees across North America. The people are one of the best parts of working here: you'll collaborate with incredibly talented, curious, and driven teammates who are deeply committed to doing great work. ICYMI Technology & Innovation at Wealthsimple: We move quickly and build thoughtfully. That means we're always looking for better ways to work — whether that's new tools, AI, or rethinking how we approach a problem. We don't expect you to have all the answers, but we do expect curiosity and a willingness to evolve alongside the products we're building. Inclusion Statement: We're building products for a diverse world, and we need a diverse team to do it well. We strongly encourage applications from everyone, regardless of race, religion, colour, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, or disability status. Accessibility Statement: We're committed to an accessible hiring experience. If you need any accommodations throughout the interview process, please let us know — we'll work with you to make sure you have what you need. We also welcome any feedback on how we can better accommodate candidates with accessibility needs. AI in Hiring: We may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support parts of our hiring process, such as reviewing applications, analyzing resumes, or assessing responses. These tools assist our team but don't replace human judgment – all final hiring decisions are made by people. If you have questions about how your data is used, reach out to us.
