About the role
Job Title: Junior Property Accountant (Commercial)
The Junior Property Accountant supports the accounting and financial reporting functions for a portfolio of commercial properties. This role is suitable for a proactive and hands-on accounting professional seeking to develop a career in commercial property accounting within a fast paced property management environment.
Key Responsibilities Responsible for overall accuracy of accounts receivable, including posting monthly charges, preparing bank deposits, preparing tenant chargeback invoices and ensuring accurate application of receipts and charges to tenant accounts Prepare tenant statement of account and assist with tenant enquiries Manage bank accounts, record banking transactions, prepare bank reconciliations and investigate discrepancies in a timely manner Process accounts payable transactions, ensuring accuracy and timely payments to vendors and reconcile vendor accounts when necessary Prepare monthly utility recovery reconciliations Prepare HST returns monthly Organize and maintain accurate records, including filing of physical/electronic invoices and other accounting documents Work closely with Property Management and other departments and provide accurate/timely accounting information as requested Provide supporting documentation for audit and tenant enquiries Other projects as required
Qualifications & Skills Post-secondary education in Accounting, or related field of study with an accounting focus. 1–2 years of accounting experience (co-op, internship, or entry-level experience considered an asset) Strong attention to detail, organization, and accuracy Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (Intermediate level) Ability to manage deadlines in a month-end driven environment Strong communication and interpersonal skills Willingness to learn Commercial property accounting experience Yardi Voyager experience Pursuing a CPA designation
