The salary range for this position is {$ 73,400 - $ 97,900}. The actual salary will vary based on applicant’s education, experience, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity. The salary may also be adjusted based on applicant’s geographic location.

What the day will look like

  • Act as a subject matter authority for clients’ ongoing pension administration processes.
  • Review pension calculations and conduct periodic reviews of PAs, PARs, annual statements, etc.
  • Educate associates and clients, support client or service transitions, and maintain a solid understanding of processes and documentation.
  • Lead client communication and key touchpoints, collaborating with internal partners to analyze and resolve issues.
  • Participate in meetings to discuss identified issues and their impact on service delivery.
  • Create detailed functional business requirements and ensure proper hand-off for integration testing.
  • Monitor project scope, including downstream process impacts, and evaluate change requests for business impact and need.
  • Provide status reports and communicate process changes for assigned projects.
  • Assist with post-project quality assurance and knowledge management.
  • Estimate, schedule, and direct all project-related work activities.
  • Work with third-party providers (Aon partners and client partners) to ensure seamless process delivery.
  • Lead operational improvements and support the design of new processes, with attention to upstream and downstream impacts.
  • Identify and resolve complex client issues using pattern, trend, and root-cause analysis, and drive related improvements.
  • Ensure service delivery meets agreed service level agreements (SLAs).
  • Lead and coach associates, guiding client delivery for both new and existing team members.
  • Identify inquiries that fall outside Aon’s or the team’s scope and escalate appropriately.
  • Support the internal and external change request process, including scoping and costing.
  • Support audits (internal and external) and contribute to team training.
  • Assist with documentation and maintenance of release notes and training materials.
  • Support investigations on regulatory and compliance issues and ensure appropriate reporting to management.

How this opportunity is different

The Defined Benefits Pension Consultant supports ongoing delivery for pension administration through issue resolution, change requests, and standardized processes that help to achieve Service Levels (SLAs). This position involves regular client interaction, vendor management as well as coaching and mentoring of staff. The consultant could be involved in leading projects and Change Requests. In this role, you will identify and resolve issues through root cause analysis and then implement solutions. This role will lead and sponsor process creation, improvement initiatives and changes.

As a consultant on the team, you may work across multiple areas with implementation managers, Service Delivery Managers, finance leads and other associates

Skills and experience that will lead to success

  • 5 to 7 years of experience working with Defined Benefit pension plans required;
  • referred education in Math, Statistics, Actuarial Sciences and Finance;
  • Previous work experience in reviewing calculations and yearend tasks (PAs, Indexation, Annual Statements, etc.);
  • Solid knowledge of related provincial and federal pension legislation and Income Tax Act provisions;
  • Strong client and vendor communication and leadership skills;
  • Experience with project/implementation work;
  • Good oral and written communication skills, and ability to work in a team environment;
  • Ability to identify and close gaps in processes and procedures within and across practices;
  • Proficiency with MS Project, Excel, Access and Word;
  • Experience with pension administration systems, strong spreadsheet competencies and math proficiency required;
  • Thorough with sound pension administration and organizational skills; and
  • Other assets include fluency in French, a relevant degree and the completion of CEBS, PPAC, CHRP or actuarial courses.
