About the role
Role Overview RegiFortis is supporting a regulated fintech/crypto/payments institution in the appointment of a Compliance Officer (MLRO) based in Canada. This is a statutory control function responsible for AML/ATF governance and regulatory reporting under the Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) and Terrorist Financing Act (PCMLTFA) and applicable Regulations. The Compliance Officer will act as the designated individual before the Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada (FINTRAC). The role reports directly to the Group Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) and provides periodic reporting to the Board of Directors.
Key Responsibilities: Perform the function of Compliance Officer / MLRO under Canadian AML/ATF legislation. Oversee and maintain the AML/ATF compliance programme, including policies, risk assessment, internal controls, and training. Ensure timely and accurate FINTRAC reporting, including STRs, LCTRs, and EFTRs, Act as the primary contact for FINTRAC examinations and regulatory communications. Review high-risk cases and oversee transaction monitoring and sanctions governance. Prepare regular compliance reports for the Group CCO and Board, including escalation of material risks.
Requirements: Resident in Canada (mandatory) and legally eligible to work in Canada. Minimum 2+ years of AML/ATF experience within a regulated financial institution (MSB, crypto, fintech, payments, or banking). Practical experience with FINTRAC reporting obligations and supervisory interaction. Strong knowledge of Canadian AML legislation and risk-based compliance frameworks. High integrity, independence, and sound judgment.
Regulatory Suitability: The Compliance Officer (MLRO) must meet fit and proper requirements, demonstrate sufficient professional competence, independence, and availability, and be capable of acting autonomously in accordance with FINTRAC supervisory expectations for regulated entities.
