About the role
We currently have an opening for a temporary Commercial Lines (Property) Underwriter in our Northern Alberta branch, reporting to our Commercial Lines (Property) Manager. The duration of this contract is 6 months in length. Based out of our Edmonton location, this role contributes to the achievement of a profitable and growing portfolio of business and service level objectives by providing underwriting support and assistance to department underwriters. More specifically, the responsibilities would include the following:
What You'll Do:
- Review quote requests and applications to determine risk acceptability, policy terms and rates to process new business;
- Review and process renewals, endorsements and cancellations;
- Place facultative reinsurance on risks that exceed capacity;
- Provide underwriting advice and answer inquiries from brokers;
- Liaise with personal lines, claims and accounting departments on mutual concerns;
- Visit brokers to communicate underwriting approaches, facilitating public relations efforts and solving problems;
- Attend industry functions;
- Various other duties as required.
What You'll Bring:

Strong knowledge of policy wordings and rating guidelines;

Property and Casualty insurance experience;

Post secondary education and/or working towards CIP/FCIP designation is an asset;

Strong written and verbal communication skills;

Strong negotiation and problem-solving skills;

Excellent interpersonal, organizational and time management skills;

Exceptional attention to detail and customer service driven;

Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite;

Guidewire experience would be considered an asset;

Ability to multi-task and monitor progress to meet deadlines.
