About the role
The Canadian ASSC Group Benefits (GB) Valuation team is responsible for the reserve and capital of the GB segment and provides ongoing support to the business. Thanks to the dynamic nature of GB, there is a regular flow of stimulating initiatives such as inquiry related to the support of clients, reporting of earnings and Basis Change.
As part of the GB Valuation team, you will have a lot of developmental opportunities, such as increasing your knowledge of key aspects of group benefits (e.g., products, financial arrangement, IFRS 17, LICAT, etc.) as well as your communication skills.
The role involves working closely with the GB’s Valuation and Line Actuaries. You will also have the opportunity to collaborate with Pricing team, the accounting & finance team, Group Finance Actuarial, Group Capital Management and IS.
Position Responsibilities:
- Support the monthly/quarterly reporting process, including partnering with the Business Unit Finance to explain financial results
- Support the Valuation and Line Actuaries regarding underwriting and pricing requests as well as special projects and business initiatives
- Support review of assumption/methodology of reserve
- Assist the Line Actuary with Basis Change impact review, and ensure all Basis Changes and capital implications are well understood by partners
- Implement, review AXIS modeling changes; perform ad-hoc modeling in GGY AXIS as required
Required Qualifications:
- Actuarial designation (ASA) with 2+ years of proven experience in actuarial roles
- Post-secondary education in Math/Computer Science, Actuarial Science or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrates sophisticated knowledge regarding technical aspects of work; able to review data or results (financial or otherwise) for reasonability and identify root causes and drivers in the data being reviewed
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently, particularly in using sound, independent judgment, problem-solving and analytical skills
- Maintains composure and effectiveness in high-pressure environments, demonstrating confidence and resilience when navigating challenges and setbacks.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate, negotiate and have strong influence
- Results oriented, able to handle expectations, work under tight deadlines and handle contending priorities
- Proficiency in GGY Axis

Salary range is expected to be between
$69,150.00 CAD - $115,250.00 CAD
Employees also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn incentive compensation tied to business and individual performance. The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training.
