Purpose

The Vice President, Retail Payments, Canadian Banking, will provide strategic direction, leadership and oversight for Canadian Retail Unsecured Borrowing portfolios (credit cards, lines of credit, and term loans) focusing on credit card lending margins, overall product management for all Retail Payments, new payment innovations, network partnerships and overall customer payment & borrowing experiences. Ensure the business strategies, plans and initiatives are delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

Accountabilities

  • Leverage a customer centric orientation to strengthen Retail Bank returns and achieve shared scorecards metrics

  • Identify and delivers on strategic opportunities to innovate and accelerate growth across all aspects of unsecured borrowing solutions for the Canadian Retail Bank

  • Lead overall portfolio borrowing/lending and optimization strategies to actively monitor and improve margins through a multi-year strategic roadmap

  • Develop new borrowing & payments solutions based on customer needs which integrate with broader customer value propositions across channels

  • Manage the Retail Payment P&L along with important Payment & Borrowing key performance indicators

  • Lead innovation across new payment solutions, including at point of sale, to evolve the credit card, line of credit and term loan customer value propositions

  • Drive strategic direction and effectively manage core network relationships (VISA, Amex, MasterCard, Interac) to achieve strategic objectives and create long term value for the Bank

  • Partner across the Canadian Bank ecosystem to identify revenue opportunities and collaborate from point of ideation to execution with functional and channel partners

  • Identify and deliver on multiyear strategic CX, product and feature roadmap across all channels with a focus on innovative solutions to meet customer payments and borrowing needs

  • Develop and deliver Balance Build campaigns by engaging existing Scotiabank payment/borrowing customers

  • Build a high-performance environment and implement a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviours; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and, managing succession and development planning for the team.

  • Directs day-to-day activities in a manner consistent with the Bank’s risk culture and the relevant risk appetite statement and limits. Communicates the Bank’s risk culture and risk appetite statement throughout their teams.

  • Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.

Education / Experience

  • 10+ years’ experience in credit cards and/or retail payments
  • MBA or post-secondary degree preferred
  • Experience managing a Profit and Loss statement, or running a business
  • Recognized and resilient team leader who inspires a results-oriented customer-centric culture
  • Exceptional business planning, strategy development and execution skills
  • Proven relationship management skills with demonstrated seamless collaboration across multiple stakeholders
