Reporting to the Chief Audit & Risk Officer, the Managing Director, Enterprise Risk Management will play a key role in leading the modern evolution of the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) program, helping the team make meaningful progress and demonstrating the value of risk management to the organization.

The Managing Director will lead with integrity, collaborative attitude, and agility - while driving significant progress as ERM continues on its evolutionary journey. The incumbent will have the ability to navigate complexity effectively, search for innovative solutions, pivot as necessary, and build out robust stakeholder relationships. As a strong ambassador for risk management, the incumbent will play a meaningful role in helping ERM deliver value for the organization, drive meaningful insights, and ensure that practices in place enable risk-informed decision-making.

This role will be based in TMX Group's Toronto office (Hybrid - 2 days /week in office).

Key Accountabilities:

  • Support the Chief Audit & Risk Officer in setting and executing on the strategic direction for both the annual and multi-year ERM program - to further evolve the function, align with industry practices, and deliver value-add to the organization.
  • Lead a team of risk professionals in developing and effectively driving the annual ERM program priorities and objectives.
  • Build and maintain TMX Group Risk Appetite Framework and support the organization in the periodic update and refresh of TMX Group risk appetite and metrics.
  • Support business units in identifying, managing, monitoring and reporting of relevant risk exposures; provide effective challenge as the Second Line of Defense; and leverage enterprise risk appetite to ensure that risk exposures are within acceptable levels.
  • Facilitate the quarterly objective-centric risk assessments across the organization; and support business units in performing ad-hoc risk assessments for sophisticated strategic and operational priorities.

Skills and Experience:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, economics, finance or other relevant field
  • Minimum of 10-15 years of progressive, meaningful experience in a risk management function - preferably within the financial services and/or technology industry
  • Minimum 7 years of proven experience leading and developing teams
  • Proven broad and in-depth knowledge of risk management concepts - across various dimensions of risk - and their application in the financial services and/or technology industries
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the financial services industry and relevant regulatory requirements (Bank of Canada, OSFI, OSC etc.)
  • Strong analytical, attention to detail and critical thinking skills combined with the ability to maintain focus on the big picture
  • Strong emotional intelligence and an ability to communicate clearly and persuasively
  • Ability to work collaboratively across business divisions and corporate functions and navigate well the expectations of senior stakeholders and the Board of Directors
  • The ability to persevere in the face of challenges with the understanding that while modernizing a risk management program will present certain challenges, it is fundamental to helping the enterprise as a whole achieve its top objectives
  • Proven track record for practical and innovative problem solving
  • Passion and energy combined with a clear sense of how to "make it happen" through collaboration, engagement and dedication
  • Ability to lead and partner with multiple stakeholders on sophisticated projects in order to move the dial

Nice to Have:

  • Professional designation or working towards designation in risk management (FRM, PRM, CFA)
  • Solid understanding of Google for Work
  • Build trust-centric relationships with business partners by demonstrating solid and practical understanding of risk management knowledge and techniques, following through on commitments, and leading with integrity.
  • Assist in assessing the tools and technology needed to support the ERM program's operations and advance the development of risk measurement and monitoring methods.
  • Liaise with colleagues in other corporate functions - including and Internal Audit - to share observations and priorities; coordinate activities while taking into account the impact on relevant business units; and identify opportunities to reduce process duplication and increase alignment between these functions.
  • Help lead and support the development and delivery of ERM program related communication and training initiatives, as needed.
  • Monitor the competitive landscape, industry changes, and geopolitical developments in order to identify emerging risks with potential to impact TMX strategic objectives; and assist with socializing those with key stakeholders.
  • Establish and maintain an accurate balance between partnership and effective challenge with the relevant business and functional units.
  • Serve as a leader in support of the ERM mission and vision and the development and continuous reinforcement of a culture that recognizes and values the need for effective risk management.
