Job Summary

We are hiring for a risk analyst. The analyst will be working closely with a team of data engineers and data scientists to develop crucial data assets for Portfolio Risk Oversight. The analyst will drive custom risk analytics and provide insights to business partners by using an open source scalable platform for reporting, analytics and data science. To be successful, the risk analyst needs to have extensive SQL, Tableau and Python experience for data processing and strengthening data capabilities, deeper insights and better data driven business decisions.

What is the opportunity?

RBC GRM Portfolio Risk Oversight, BFS is hiring for a Risk Analyst. You will strive to create and deliver superior risk management insights through a range of effective methods that grow profitable business and drive prudent risk guidelines and policy, creating sustainable value for RBC shareholders. Using best-in-class data mining techniques, you will support data-driven business decisions for Group Risk Management by identifying, understanding, organizing, and presenting data trends.­

What will you do?

  • Participate in analytics design sessions, providing input, gathering and documenting business requirements, and helping formulate an analytical framework to develop effective portfolio data model
  • Develop a subject matter expertise, in all manner of business and risk data mining activities (activities include, but are not limited to data analysis, aggregation, interpretation and recommendation)
  • Investigate new industry leading data tools and methods to be leveraged in data mining, analysis & visualization
  • Participate actively in the exchange of knowledge relating to products, data & analytical methodology.
  • Provide analytical support on Ad Hoc requests originating from various stakeholders
  • Enhance portfolio data model by developing data health check framework

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • Degree in quantitative field of study (e.g. Statistics, Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Computer Science) – to demonstrate capability for critical thinking and data analysis
  • SQL, Python programming and experience; expertise with MS Office Suite
  • Knowledge and working experience with data management and visualization using tools such as SAS and Tableau
  • Strong data manipulation capability using financial formulas
  • Working experience in relational databases
  • Strong business and data acumen
  • Effective and equally conversant in translating technical expertise into business language that drive insights

Nice-to-have

  • Experience in the Financial industry
  • Expertise in navigating an Enterprise Data Warehouse, experience with Hadoop environments, R or other tools
  • Experience with data modeling and database administration
  • Demonstrated leadership in cross-functional environment

Please note: This posting is for a 4-months Fall 2024 Student placement with a start date of September 2024, and end date of December 2024. In order to be eligible for this 4-months Student position, you must either:

  • Be returning back to school after the work term end-date of December 2024 ; or
  • If you are not returning back to school (i.e. are graduating in December 2024), you must require the full 4-months work term as a mandatory component to in order to graduate successfully.
