PURPOSE

The Accountant, Corporate will report to the Supervisor, Corporate Accounting for corporate accounting and reporting functions for Morguard. This includes providing accurate and timely financial information as required by management, including the preparation and completion of Morguard's consolidated financial statements


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. General Accounting
Responsible for maintenance/oversight of the day-to-day general ledger transactions, including drafting and input of journal entries

2. Financial Reporting
a. Assist in the preparation of Morguard's consolidated financial statements and revising/updating the financial statements to address review comments

b. Preparation of note disclosures and the associated working papers to ensure completeness and accuracy of the financial statements

c. Responsible for determining and recording elimination and consolidation journal entries

d. Assist in preparing internal reporting packages to provide further support for the consolidated financial statements

e. Monitoring of monthly and quarterly reporting timeline

f. Assist in the preparation of financial statements for various external reporting requirements

3. Quarterly/Annual Audit

a. Responsible for coordinating and managing the delivery of all working papers and supporting documents to facilitate the completion of the internal audit

b Assist with the audit processes through the preparation and compilation of the working papers to resolve external audit queries and liaise with auditors

4. Management Reporting
Responsible for the preparation of various management reporting for key industry metrics including NOI, occupancy & leasing activity

5. Reforecast and Budget
a. Prepare annual management and financial reporting packages

b. Provides assistance, where necessary, to the annual budget and periodic re-forecasting processes, including variance analysis

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Skills, Knowledge, Experience and Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or Commerce or equivalent
  • Working towards a CPA designation is required
  • Minimum 1 - 2 years of experience in Corporate accounting and financial reporting or equivalent
  • General understanding of Canadian GAAP and IFRS
  • Intermediate to advanced working knowledge of MS Office applications
  • Demonstrated track record of creating and implementing strategic change and innovation would be an asset
  • Working knowledge of Yardi 7S would be an asset

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Real Estate industry experience preferred.
