Position Overview
To provide audit assistance to the Director – Internal Audit in fulfilling the Internal Audit mandate.
Mandate is to support WEG leaders to achieve their goals by providing independent, objective and value-added assurance/audit services that focus on improving the effectiveness of risk management, internal control, regulatory compliance and governance processes as they relate to promoting ethics and ensuring effective performance management and accountability.
RESPONSIBILITY
- Execution of assigned individual “financial” audits defined in the annual audit plan ensuring the highest level of service quality.
- Assess effectiveness of management established controls in audit areas.
- Develop/update process documentation on audit areas.
- Digitize and streamline working papers to improve efficiency.
- Provide direct assistance to external auditors in their yearly financial audit.
Knowledge, Skills & Technical Abilities
- Strong analytical, reconciliation and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communications (Verbal & Written) and human relations skills.
- Knowledge of professional auditing (IIA) and accounting standards (CICA).
- Knowledge of Horse racing practices, regulations and law (Preferred).
- Planning and time management.
- Tenacity and ethics.
- Technology proficient (excel, word, ability to learn new software).
- Experience in working with D365 or other financial reporting systems (Preferred)
Experience/Qualification
- 2 or more years’ general accounting/auditing experience.
- Experience in extracting, re-formatting and auditing data from various applications.
- Bachelor degree in accounting/auditing/business system.
- Certified Internal Audit (CIA)
Problem Solving & decision making
- Time Management Problem – to complete assigned audit in a timely manner.
- Root Cause (RC) Analysis – resolve identified control weakness with management through RC analysis.
- Sample selection: selection of sample size and types of samples determined after assessment of any significant changes in the audit area.
- Audit procedures to adopt: determined by the effectiveness of the procedures in achieving the audit objectives.
