POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Manager, Financial Operations, the Senior Operations Accountant will conduct operational processing, provide operational financial analysis, support to accounting function while ensuring all aspects of the financial operations are delivered to the highest standard.

The Senior Accountant will ensure strong controls are maintained in our existing processes and have the desire to build upon the financial processes and procedures at Mitacs. A roll up the sleeves, hard-working attitude is a must.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supports in the reconciliation process of relevant balance sheet and/or income statement accounts
  • Investigates variances and resolves discrepancies in collaboration with other members of finance
  • Monitors daily operational performance to be incorporated into weekly and monthly reporting
  • Supports in the distribution and allocation of relevant daily tasks to junior accountants
  • Being available to lead and mentor junior accountants across the finance operations team
  • Ensuring that assigned month-end financial accounting duties and all resulting financial reporting requirements are completed timely and accurately
  • Works closely with other members of finance during month-end close process and annual audits
  • Actively identify and assess areas for process improvements and efficient workflows while ensuring adequate internal controls for company oversight
  • Support Manager, Financial Operations with ad-hoc projects and other assigned duties


STAKEHOLDER RELATIONS:

  • Responding to queries and requests internally to our business development, grant specialist and other internal teams.
  • In collaboration with the grant specialist team, ensure project files are accurate and executed successfully.
  • Helping other team members resolve challenges between other departments.
  • Interacting with University and Industry partners to ensure needs are addressed and expectations are met.


EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:

  • 3 + years of progressive accountancy experience
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics Finance & Operations considered an asset
  • Bachelor’s degree in business (accounting or finance) or related area

  • Strong communication skills – both written and oral – with all levels of stakeholders
  • Advanced problem-solving abilities
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, rapidly changing and dynamic work environment
  • Attention to detail and accuracy are essential
  • High level of business acumen and strong analytical and decision-making skills
  • Ability to make recommendations and communicate with senior management
  • Ability to build and maintain strong cross-functional working relationships
  • Fluent in both English and French considered an asset


Hiring Range: $57,520 - $68,305

Salary Range: $57,520 - $86,280
