Working Business Language: English. Salary: At Wawanesa, salary is only one component of a holistic, comprehensive and competitive offering that we provide to our employees. The salary offered for this role is determined with consideration to various factors, including but not limited to: your work location, local labour market conditions, external market salary data, internal pay equity and the knowledge, skills, experience and anticipated proficiency in the role. Job Overview

The Senior Financial Analyst is responsible for the day-to-day operational accounting function, working closely with the Finance team providing expertise and support as required. The Senior Financial Analyst leads the preparation of walkthroughs and proof of concepts to support the automation of current processes. The Senior Financial Analyst reviews general ledger account reconciliations and assists with internal and external financial reporting.

Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the day-to-day operational accounting function providing expertise and support as required and participating in ongoing projects
  • Prepare quarter-end and year-end working paper sections, and assist with internal and external financial reporting
  • Responsible for the review of month-end general ledger account reconciliations and tasks
  • Assist in finance modernization efforts including software integration of the general ledger, financial close software and reporting software
  • Assist in producing walkthroughs for automating current processes
  • Assist in Internal Control Over Financial Reporting (ICOFR)) program testing and walkthroughs
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Must hold an accounting designation; CPA, CA, CMA, CGA
  • Minimum three years of relevant accounting experience
  • Takes clear ownership and becomes an expert in a certain subject area or areas, educating others in areas they are especially knowledgeable
  • Demonstrates effective communication by expressing ideas clearly, and asking probing questions to ensure understanding
  • Able to consistently identify when work is required and initiates action as appropriate
  • Demonstrates analysis and problem-solving skills by collecting information from all relevant sources, involving others where appropriate, and asking effective questions to elicit detailed and relevant information
  • Highly proficient time management skills with the ability to prioritize work in a fast paced, changing environment
  • Demonstrates attention to detail by reviewing own work carefully and catching most errors
  • Strong organization skills with the ability to handle multiple concurrent responsibilities
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team to ensure objectives are met by making quality contributions and supporting fellow team members
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office software
  • Experience with PeopleSoft, Workiva, Blackline or Planful considered an asset
  • Previous insurance experience considered an asset
