Working Business Language: This role is considered a head-office role and will be required to communicate with internal stakeholders across Canada where the primary business language utilized is English.

Job Overview

The Cyber Security Advisor role contributes to Wawanesa's success by advising technical and business teams on the implementation of security requirements to protect data and maintain & strengthen the organizational risk posture.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provides advisory support to Wawanesa's Insurance and Technology team by ensuring alignment with Security standards and policies with a focus on implementation of controls in applications, data, cloud platforms, systems, networks and end-point solutions.
  • Consults broadly with both Technology and Business teams to guide and influence implementation of security in technology decisions and initiatives.
  • Leads the design and creation of security guidelines, design patterns, standards, and best practices for use by Insurance and Technology teams.
  • Conducts security assessments related to projects and initiatives of varying complexity and clearly communicates, tracks, and contributes to desired outcomes.
  • Provides security advisory service with respect to policies, standards, procedures, and major industry regulations for Wawanesa's applications.
  • Builds effective working relationships with cross-functional stakeholders and leaders.
  • Distills technical security risks, solutions, and information into meaningful and actionable recommendations for partners using business language.
  • Contributes to and makes recommendations to improve existing Cybersecurity Advisory service offerings and processes.
  • Contributes to reporting of metrics for management and stakeholders.
  • Promotes alignment to Wawanesa's security standards and processes.
  • Keeps up to date with industry trends, activities, and technology developments.
  • Provides peer mentorship and guidance within the information security team.
  • Fosters and promotes security culture amongst all Insurance and Technology stakeholders.
  • Researches and understands emerging technologies and concepts in the industry.
  • Performs threat risk assessments.
  • Performs general security consultations for Insurance and Technology projects and initiatives.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of Information Services/Information Technology related experience with minimum of 3 years in a Cyber Security related role.
  • Possession of / or working towards industry related certifications (such as CISSP, CISM)
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate and lead productive meetings with diverse cross-functional teams / team members that have varying degrees of technical acumen. Superior knowledge of industry standard technical security controls.
  • Ability to build lasting professional relationships with both technical and non-technical personnel.
  • Ability to communicate, both verbally and in writing, in a persuasive and eloquent manner.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage and prioritize work.
  • Superior knowledge of Cyber Security frameworks.
  • Working knowledge of security tools and technologies.
  • Experience with M365, Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services and other cloud technologies and platforms.
  • Experience with secure design of PaaS / SaaS based platforms and applications.
  • Familiarity with assessing and understanding vulnerability assessments.
  • Experience within an internal/external client facing role is considered an asset.
  • Experience in the insurance/finance industry is an asset.
  • Experience leading projects or initiatives is an asset.
