The Intermediate Accountant is a key team member of our team who assists in producing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for Irving Oil. This is a position within Corporate Back Office and deals with the accounting functions related to Irving Oil's various hedging programs.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Review/prepare monthly recurring and complex ad hoc journal entries.
  • Participate in monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
  • Preparation of financial statement note disclosure relate to hedging programs
  • Review/prepare complex account reconciliations and perform investigation of outstanding and reconciling items.
  • Work with the Commodity and Treasury Risk Management teams to ensure new hedging strategies are investigated and accounted for in accordance with IFRS.
  • Providing information related to tax queries and supporting the tax provision process.
  • Preparation of audit working papers for internal and external audits, when requested.
  • Work closely with the Commodity Risk Management team, Treasury, IT, Financial Planning and Analysis, Tax, and other groups.
  • Assist with ad-hoc financial analyses.
  • Communicate with our trading institutions when required.
  • Assist junior staff with their development

Professional Skills:

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Able to think analytically and critically; able to recognize and solve problems.
  • Very client focused; collaborative mindset and can work within a team.
  • Experience processing and recording complex financial transactions.
  • Familiarity with IFRS would be considered an asset.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Intermediate proficiency with MS Excel.
  • Experience with Oracle and Allegro would be an asset.
  • Excellent organizational skills, time management and ability to work on multiple projects at one time in a

Your Experience:

  • Degree in Business Administration, Finance, or Accounting.
  • Professional designation CPA or enrolled in the CPA program (not a must)
  • 3+ years of experience in accounting
