What is the Opportunity?

This role is part of Group Risk Management - U.S. Enterprise Risk, supporting the execution of governance frameworks and Risk Appetite for the Combined US Operations (CUSO), RBC's Intermediate Holding Company (RIHC) and branches within the U.S. This role will provide oversight and guidance to the lines of business (LoB)s and oversight functions as it pertains to creation, update and governance of Risk Appetite across the US.

What will you do?

CUSO Risk Management Framework

  • Annual (and any off cycle) update of CUSO Risk Management Framework

  • Provide guidance and perform consistency checks across Risk Management Frameworks in the legal entities in the RIHC

CUSO Risk Appetite

  • Annual (and any off cycle) update of CUSO Risk Appetite Statements/ Measures (RAS/RAMs)

    • Perform Review and Challenge of proposals from the first line of defense

    • Provide guidance on risk appetite measures to the second line of defense

    • Preparation of presentations for management and board committees

    • Assist with meeting minutes and documentation requirements

  • Annual update of the CUSO Risk Appetite Framework (RAF), as well as all related policies and procedures

    • Drafting and updating of all of key governance documents

  • Quarterly reporting of Risk Appetite results to management and board committees

  • Drafting of materials for quarterly meetings with US regulators and assisting with coverage of regulatory exams and requests for information, as well as any MRA remediations

  • Assist with periodic reviews and requests for information from Internal Audit and various stakeholders across risk

  • Maintain Risk Appetite supporting documentation files

US Subsidiaries / Lines of Business Oversight/Guidance on Risk Appetite

  • Provide guidance and share information across the US subsidiaries, to ensure alignment and best practices

  • Work with the Enterprise Risk Appetite team in Toronto, for consistency and alignment of practices - as appropriate

  • Maintain robust documentation on decisions reached across the US and Enterprise (Toronto) RA teams

Stakeholder / Team Management

  • Maintain proactive and timely communication within Enterprise Risk Management and across Risk Stipes, subsidiary risk teams, and US LoBs.

  • Facilitate meetings with all key parties, as required

  • Support and look to improve the process/workflow with problem solving, providing ideas and independent opinions.

What do you need to succeed?

  • General knowledge of key risk disciplines e.g., enterprise, market, counterparty credit, liquidity risk and Operational Risk

  • Prior experience within Risk or Product Control will be prioritized

  • Prior work developing processes and controls related to Heightened Standards or Reg YY will be prioritized

  • Prior Experience with Risk Appetite and / or risk limits is very beneficial

  • Managing projects and initiatives for multiple stakeholders

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required

  • In-depth knowledge of MS Office

Other Required Qualifications:

  • Required: Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, Law or other related fields

  • 5+ years previous experience work in a Risk Management role in a Financial Services organization.

Suggested Qualifications:

  • Preferred: Master's Degree in Business, Finance, Law or other related fields or Risk Management certification (e.g. FRM)

The good-faith expected salary range for the above position is $110,000 - $190,000 (NJ) depending on factors including but not limited to the candidate's experience, skills, registration status; market conditions; and business needs. This salary range does not include other elements of total compensation, including a discretionary bonus and benefits such as a 401(k) program with company-matching contributions; health, dental, vision, life and disability insurance; and paid time-off plan.
