The Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager of Finance Operations, the Finance department is recruiting for a Team Lead to head the operations for the Finance department.

The Team Lead will be responsible for the day-to-day operational functions of the finance department, especially in relation to the Accounts Payable, Receivable section and Cashiering functions which includes direct supervision of staff approximately 5 to 7 staff.

The ideal candidate is required to have the ability to work independently to improve and maintain efficiency of all internal workflow processes and procedures. They will ensure that all finance operations are compliant with required policies and see that internal controls pertaining to the area of responsibility are followed.
The position is also responsible for coordinating and working closely with internal departments and other stakeholders for compliance reporting.

The Role

    • Provide leadership, and front level supervisory support by coordinating the work duties, schedules and priorities of the Accounts payables (AP) and/or accounts receivable (AR) teams.
    • Provide training to AR and/or AP staff to ensure policies, procedures and internal controls are followed.
    • Review AP & AR transactions which includes AP/AR daily transactions, refunds, incoming payments and deposit reconciliations, accruals, deferrals and clearing accounts to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
    • Review AR/AP sub-ledger reports, various audit requirements, and other systems related reconciliations (e.g. Destiny, Paymytuition & Touchnet) etc. Review and approve Journal entries.
    • Process weekly check-runs, Wires, EFTs and assist the staff with AR collections, vendor reconciliations, upload of JEs, MDUUs, departmental deposits into Banner and other systems if needed.
    • Provide recommendations, create SOP’s and implement changes for system and process improvement for the department.
    • Review, configure, test and assist in the implementation of the Tuition fee schedules, Tax receipt modules in Banner.
    • Review, reconcile and file legislative compliance reports in a timely manner (Ex. Unclaimed property)
    • Prepare monthly reports and Dashboard summaries for senior management.
    • Assist to implement and monitor the efficiency of internal controls connected the AR and AP function.
    • Build and nurture working relationships within Finance, Supply Chain, Office of the registrar, and other business outlets within SAIT.
    • Conduct credit reviews for independent contractors, clients, vendors etc.
    • Support AR/AP team leads and/or Manager of finance operations and backfill their roles when absence.
    • Represent the department on various project teams and committees. Provide guidance and interpretation on financial policies and procedure for SAIT staff and students as required.
    • Research and recommend best practice for implementing and maintaining appropriate internal controls.
    • Assist the financial reporting and treasury team with reconciliations related to AR/AP transactions.
    • Other duties as required.

Qualifications & Experience

    • Degree or diploma in a related discipline
    • Accounting designation or working towards one is preferred.
    • 5 years related experience
    • 5 years’ supervisory experience
    • Strong knowledge of enterprise reporting systems
    • Excellent communication, interpersonal, leadership skills
    • Excellent analytical and technical accounting skills
    • Good knowledge of best practices in accounts payables and accounts receivable
Salary range: $90,000.00 - $109,017.09
