Position Title: Accounting Manager, Hydrocarbon West

Team and Location: Hydrocarbon Accounting - Calgary, AB

Salary: $ 115,000/year

Position Summary:

The Accounting Manager is responsible for leading the hydrocarbon accounting (HCA) team, which is responsible for timely and accurate balancing of fuel and non-fuel inventory at all retail and commercial locations in Western Canada. As a member of the HCA Leadership team, the Accounting Manager is accountable for coaching and developing the supervisors, subject matters experts (SME) and analysts in their region. The Accounting Manager is a champion of continuous improvement for their team and ensure the team is executing their activities in accordance with the standardized processes while ensuring full compliance with all internal and external controls. Collaboration, ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization, and strong knowledge of ERP and reporting are critical skills required for this role.

Key Responsibilities:

Team Leadership

  • Creating and fostering a psychologically safe environment where Diversity and Inclusion is at the core of everything the team does
  • Leading by example the values of Finance Shared Services and ensuring collaboration and client / customer focus is always present
  • Leading a team of 14 Supervisors, SME's, and Analysts including developing, mentoring, coaching, and providing timely feedback
  • Work planning, recruitment, and effective assignment of tasks
  • Ensure team members having annual goals and individual development plans that is reviewed throughout the year

Reconciliation and Reporting

  • Ensure daily balancing of business units (BU) by product is completed by teams in region
  • Review and sign off monthly analysis of reconciliation and balancing of BU prepared by SMEs
  • Ensure discrepancies between subledger and general ledger are investigated and resolved by Supervisors and SMEs
  • Ensure full compliance to all documented processes and controls (internal and external)
  • Accountable for monthly Key Performance Indicator (KPI) reporting in the region for fuel and non-fuel products
  • Review and sign off monthly and quarterly accountability packages prepared for Clients

Continuous Improvement

  • Implement a culture of continuous improvement (CI) mindset
  • Provide mechanism for team to live principles of ESSA (Eliminate, Simplify, Standardize, Automate processes)
  • Ensure standardized processes, tools, reports are evergreen and team is providing timely feedback to Optimization organization to improve them
  • Embrace change and lead through example continually asking the 'why' behind activities and how it can improve
  • Set CI initiative target for team members as part of annual goals and provide encouragement and support for team members to deliver their targets
  • Develop in depth understanding of the HCA value chain and it connectivity through processes and systems within the organization

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Post-Secondary in Accounting, Finance or Supply Chain Management
  • CPA designations (or near completion)
  • Minimum of 8+ years of experience in accounting or finance at a fast-paced environment
  • Minimum 3+ years leading teams including leading leaders
  • Able to coach and mentor staff including career development
  • Ability to develop relationships across divisional lines and to cultivate a collaborative approach to decision-making
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Ability to work in a face paced environment with strict deadlines and competing priorities
  • Experience with internal controls and CSOX process documentation
  • A solid understanding of downstream business and inventory management would be an asset.
  • A working knowledge of ERP and systems including JDE (JD Edwards), SAP, EnterpriseOne, DAS, Spreadsheet Server, Power BI, ATOMIC, OneStream, PDI, Infosys, Ascend
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and modeling including power queries, SQL, etc.
  • Bilingual candidates in English, French is an asset
  • Project management skills a strong asset
