Financial Analyst - Junior Job Title: GOAPRDJP000001000 – Financial Analyst - Junior Client: Government of Alberta Work Location: 9833 - 109 ST, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, T5K 2E8 Work Arrangement: Onsite Estimated Start Date: 01/10/2026 Estimated End Date: 31/03/2027 Business Days: 123 Estimated Hours per Day: 7.25 Maximum Extension Term: 12 Months Role Overview We are seeking a Junior Financial Analyst to support full-cycle accounting, financial reporting, financial analysis, reconciliations, month-end activities, and budgeting/forecasting processes for the Government of Alberta. The successful candidate will have strong Microsoft Excel and financial transaction experience, with the ability to analyze financial data, identify discrepancies, support reconciliations, prepare journal entries, and contribute to process improvements. Experience with SAP Finance (FI), AP/AR, financial controls, audit, reconciliation, data migration, or ERP implementation will be considered an asset. Key Responsibilities Prepare and process journal entries. Assist with month-end financial reporting and month-end close activities. Perform account reconciliations and bank reconciliations. Support Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) activities. Assist with business partner and capital asset maintenance. Review and analyze accruals and trial balance accounts. Support customer collections and investigate outstanding items. Perform variance analysis and investigate financial abnormalities or discrepancies. Analyze and interpret financial information to support business requirements. Work with business entities to gather and disseminate information for budgeting and forecasting. Develop and support financial analysis, dashboards, and internal/external reporting. Identify opportunities for process improvements and contribute to their implementation. Apply accounting knowledge and financial controls to ensure the accuracy and reliability of financial data. Support diverse financial operations and provide analytical assistance to the broader team. Required Skills & Experience Must Have Hands-on experience creating and using advanced Microsoft Excel, including: Pivot Tables VLOOKUP and related Excel functions Financial data analysis and reporting Experience working with financial transactions and ensuring the accuracy and reliability of financial data. Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial analysis. Experience working with Microsoft Excel for financial reporting, reconciliation, and analysis. Nice to Have Experience applying financial audit, financial controls, financial reconciliation, or financial systems governance principles to large-scale: Data migration Data conversion ERP implementation projects Experience with Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), account reconciliation, and identifying financial errors. Experience with SAP Finance (FI), including: Financial postings Invoice processing Integration with procurement and supply chain processes Experience supporting teams across diverse financial operations. Experience with financial dashboards and reporting. Experience with budgeting and forecasting support.
