Job summary

Senior Financial Analyst (Airline Industry) Location: Remote within Canada Overview Robertson & Company is currently seeking a Senior Financial Analyst to support a high-profile federal government initiative involving the assessment of a proposed transborder airline joint venture. This opportunity will support advanced financial analysis, financial modelling, accounting analysis, profitability assessments, forecasting, route economics, and operating efficiency evaluations used to inform federal government decision-making. The successful candidate will work alongside a multidisciplinary team of economists and aviation subject matter experts to assess the financial and operational implications of a proposed airline joint venture. PLEASE NOTE: Education is a critical requirement for this opportunity. Candidates must also be eligible for Government of Canada Reliability Status, which requires a minimum of five (5) years of verifiable residency/history in Canada. Project Background Canada may conduct a Public Interest Assessment of a proposed transborder airline joint venture under the Canada Transportation Act. The successful resource will support the financial analysis and accounting component of the assessment, including review of airline financial statements, profitability analysis, route viability assessments, operating efficiencies, forecasting, and evaluation of efficiency claims made by participating airlines. The work will include analysis of confidential financial and operational data, development of financial models, evaluation of business scenarios, and preparation of reports and recommendations for federal stakeholders. Work Location & Conditions Remote within Canada No travel anticipated Contract expected to run through June 30, 2027 Must be available to support compressed project timelines Must be eligible for Government of Canada Reliability Clearance Key Responsibilities Review and analyze airline financial statements and supporting financial information Assess airline route profitability, route viability, and network performance Develop financial models and forecasts under multiple regulatory scenarios Analyze projected revenues, expenses, operating efficiencies, and business impacts Assess efficiency gains and losses associated with airline joint ventures Evaluate implementation and integration costs Conduct cost accounting and financial performance assessments Perform sensitivity analysis, scenario modelling, and risk assessments Compare airline performance against industry benchmarks Prepare reports, findings, recommendations, and executive-level briefings Participate in meetings and provide ongoing support throughout the assessment period Mandatory Requirements Education Must possess: University degree in Finance or Accounting Degree must be obtained from a Canadian institution or be recognized as equivalent in Canada Financial Analysis Experience Must demonstrate: Minimum three (3) years of financial analysis and/or financial modelling experience obtained within the last ten (10) years Financial Analysis Expertise Experience reviewing and analyzing: Financial statements Business performance Financial models Financial forecasts Cost structures Security Requirement Must be eligible to obtain: Government of Canada Reliability Status Highly Desired Experience Airline Industry Experience Experience in one or more of the following areas: Airline financial analysis Airline financial statement analysis Route profitability analysis Route viability analysis Airline network analysis Airline pricing analysis Revenue forecasting Cost forecasting Airline operating efficiency assessments Financial Modelling & Forecasting Experience developing and using: Scenario models Sensitivity analyses Financial forecasting models Investment analyses Business cases Cost accounting models Risk assessment methodologies Mergers, Acquisitions & Joint Ventures Experience supporting: Financial due diligence M&A transaction analysis Joint venture assessments Synergy evaluations Integration cost analysis Commercial viability assessments Competition-related financial reviews Accounting Expertise Experience performing: Cost accounting Management accounting Financial investigations Financial evaluations Efficiency assessments Financial performance analysis Technical Skills Experience using: Advanced Microsoft Excel SQL, SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar databases Python R SAS STATA Tableau or comparable analytical tools Ideal Candidate The strongest candidates will possess: CPA, CFA and/or MBA designation Direct airline industry experience Experience with airline routes, networks, profitability, and pricing Experience supporting mergers, acquisitions, alliances, or joint ventures Strong financial modelling and forecasting capabilities Experience preparing executive-level reports and recommendations Ability to work with large, complex financial and operational datasets Previous consulting, transportation, aviation, or regulatory analysis experience How to Apply If you meet the above requirements and have experience in airline finance, financial modelling, route economics, M&A, or joint venture analysis, we would like to hear from you.
