Job Description This posting is for a co-op Student Winter 2027 placement with a start date of January 11, 2027 and end-date of April 30, 2027 Must submit a cover letter stating your preferred placement (Mandatory for consideration): Visual Designer Interaction Designer Design Researcher Content Designer Must include digital designs/portfolio on resume with a link for viewing purposes (Mandatory for consideration) This is an in-person role In order to be eligible for this Winter Student position, you must either: Be returning back to school after the work term end-date in August 2027 If you are not returning back to school (i.e. are graduating in April 2027), but you require the work term as a mandatory component in order to graduate successfully. Please ensure that you meet these eligibility requirements before applying - candidates who apply but are found to be ineligible are not able to be considered. What is the opportunity? We are seeking motivated and creative students to join our Digital Design team. This internship offers hands-on experience in designing intuitive, user-centered digital solutions that enhance the client experience across multiple platforms. As part of our team, you will collaborate with designers, developers, and product managers to translate user insights into actionable design solutions. Potential Placements: Visual Designer Interaction Designer Design Researcher Content Designer What will you do? Depending on your placement, you may: • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to create user-centered digital experiences aligned with RBC’s strategic goals and brand standards. • Conduct research to understand user needs, pain points, and behaviors, translating findings into actionable insights. • Design and prototype intuitive interfaces, including wireframes, low-fidelity sketches, and high-fidelity prototypes (training and mentorship provided). • Develop and refine reusable UI components, patterns, and design system documentation to ensure consistency (no prior experience required—we’ll guide you!). • Apply design principles, accessibility standards, and best practices to optimize the client experience (learning opportunities included). • Create and deliver content strategies that align with user needs and RBC’s digital voice. • Support usability testing and research activities to evaluate prototypes and improve user experiences. • Simplify complex problems and present solutions through effective visualizations and frameworks. • Contribute to iterative design processes in an agile environment, collaborating with cross-functional teams. • Demonstrate a proactive, learning mindset by taking initiative, sharing ideas, and seeking growth opportunities. What do you need to succeed? Must-have: • Some knowledge in interaction design, visual design, content design, or design research, with a willingness and enthusiasm to learn much more. Strong communication, problem-solving, and collaboration skills, with the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team. • A portfolio or examples of work demonstrating creativity or problem-solving skills (academic or personal projects welcome). • Passion for learning about user behavior, design principles, and emerging technologies. Nice-to-have (varies by placement): Familiarity with design tools (e.g., Figma, Sketch, Adobe Creative Suite) or web technologies (e.g., HTML, CSS, JavaScript). Experience with data visualization or automation tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, etc.). Ability to interpret and communicate complex technical insights to non-technical stakeholders.
