Senior Financial Analyst | Toronto | Contract Location: Toronto, ON — Hybrid, 3 days in office Duration: 6-month contract, with the possibility of transitioning into a permanent role About the Opportunity: Our client in the media and agency sector is seeking a Senior Financial Analyst with strong experience in revenue accounting, financial planning, and business partnering. This role will support revenue performance and client profitability through accurate financial reporting, insightful analysis, and improvements to financial systems and processes. The successful candidate will combine technical accounting knowledge with an investigative approach to problem-solving and the ability to communicate financial insights to operational teams and senior leadership. Key Responsibilities: Lead month-end close activities for revenue recognition, inventory utilization, and cost allocations, including preparing and posting journal entries in accordance with applicable accounting standards. Manage budgeting, long-term financial planning, and quarterly forecasting cycles, consolidating financial submissions through Hyperion. Analyze financial performance against budget and forecast, identifying key drivers and preparing clear monthly management presentations. Partner with agency leaders, investment directors, and senior management to review financial results, assess client profitability, and support business decisions. Maintain and enhance revenue and cost models and reporting within Cognos/TM1, investigate system discrepancies, and identify opportunities to improve workflows and reporting accuracy. Develop a strong understanding of financial database structures and client accounting workflows, tracing transactions across systems to support accurate revenue and cost reporting. Develop and enhance Power BI or Tableau dashboards to improve financial visibility across business units. Monitor client and media vendor contractual obligations, reconcile vendor balances, investigate variances, and prepare required adjustments. Coordinate finance support for internal, external, and client-led audits while maintaining effective internal controls and supporting documentation. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Commerce, or a related discipline. CPA/CFA designation or progress toward certification is an asset. 4+ years of progressive experience in FP&A, revenue accounting, or commercial finance. Strong understanding of revenue recognition, billing dynamics, and profitability analysis. Hands-on experience with IBM Cognos/TM1 and Oracle Hyperion HFM or Enterprise Planning. Advanced Excel skills, including financial modeling, complex formulas, and data analysis. Exposure to Power BI, Tableau, or other business intelligence tools. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and presentation skills, with the ability to translate complex financial information into clear business insights. A collaborative approach and the ability to manage competing priorities in a high-volume environment. Experience in media, advertising, or professional services is an asset. Requirements
Requires a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and at least four years of progressive experience in FP&A, revenue accounting, or commercial finance; CPA or CFA certification or progress toward it is an asset. Candidates should have revenue recognition and profitability expertise, hands-on Cognos/TM1 and Hyperion experience, advanced Excel skills, and strong analytical, communication, and presentation abilities; BI tool exposure and media or professional services experience are assets.
