Job summary
Intermediate Underwriter, Commercial Lines Location: North Bay or Toronto, ON The Commercial Lines Underwriter is responsible for underwriting new business, renewals, and endorsements within established authority levels. This role supports profitable portfolio growth through sound underwriting judgment, strong broker relationships, and responsive, solutions-oriented service. We are open to considering candidates with varying levels of experience. The level of the position may be adjusted based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience. Specific Responsibilities Underwrite new business, renewals, and endorsements in accordance with established authority, underwriting guidelines, and service standards. Evaluate risk quality, coverage requirements, pricing, terms, and conditions for commercial accounts. Develop and maintain strong broker relationships through timely communication and practical underwriting solutions. Contribute to portfolio retention and profitable growth through effective negotiation and sound account management. Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with internal processes and regulatory requirements. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to support business objectives and service commitments. Perform other related duties as assigned. Experience and Qualifications Post-secondary education in Business, Insurance, Risk Management, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of 2 years of commercial lines underwriting experience. CIP designation, or active progress toward completion, is considered an asset. Proficiency with underwriting systems, rating tools, and Microsoft Office applications. Skills and Competencies Solid knowledge of commercial lines underwriting principles, risk assessment, pricing, and coverage analysis. Strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship management abilities. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively. Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a collaborative team environment. Strong account analysis and portfolio management skills.
