Why This Role is Special: As a Senior Underwriter, you’ll play a meaningful role in shaping underwriting decisions for Canadians coast to coast. You’ll apply your underwriting expertise, collaborate closely with advisors, internal and external partners, and help elevate underwriting standards across the organization. This is an existing position.[DC2] What You’ll Do: * Apply your medical, financial, and lifestyle underwriting expertise to make sound, confident decisions. * Build strong, respectful relationships with advisors, distributors, and internal partners. * Deliver exceptional service rooted in clarity, empathy, and professionalism. * Identify opportunities for improvement and help shape underwriting best practices. * Contribute to impactful projects involving technology, processes, and underwriting philosophy. What You Bring: * 5+ years experience in individual life and critical illness underwriting, including medical, non-medical, and financial risk assessment. * Proven ability to underwrite complex cases at higher approval authority limits, balancing risk selection with competitive decisions. * Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to synthesize evidence and guidelines to arrive at competitive decisions. * Effective communication and relationship-management skills, including collaboration with advisors, reinsurers, and internal team members. * Comfort operating in regulated environments, with consistent adherence to underwriting philosophy, audit requirements, privacy and disclosure requirements. * Experience contributing to underwriting improvement initiatives, such as guideline development, process optimization, and technology adoption. * commitment to continuous professional development, including progress toward or completion of industry designations (FLMI, FALU, CPU).
