Principal Program Manager – Payments & Banking

Job Description We are looking for an experienced Program Manager / PMO Delivery Lead with a strong engineering foundation who has successfully delivered complex technology programs within consulting environments serving Financial Services clients. This is a highly client-facing role where you'll work directly with CTOs, Delivery Directors, Engineering Managers, and executive stakeholders while leading multiple engineering teams across enterprise-scale initiatives. The ideal candidate understands both technology and business, thrives under pressure, and has experience managing large consulting engagements with demanding delivery timelines. Lead multiple concurrent technology programs across Banking, Payments, Trading, and Financial Services. Own program governance, planning, budgeting, RAID management, executive reporting, and delivery. Drive cross-functional execution across engineering, architecture, QA, DevOps, infrastructure, and business teams. Establish PMO best practices and delivery governance. Act as the primary delivery partner for enterprise Financial Services clients. Manage relationships with CTOs, CIOs, Program Directors, and executive leadership. Lead Steering Committee meetings and executive governance reviews. Translate business priorities into clear engineering roadmaps. Candidates should possess strong experience in one or more of: Payments Money Movement Banking Trading Platforms Capital Markets Wealth Management Financial Platform Modernization Regulatory Technology Drive delivery across multiple Scrum teams. Manage budgets, risks, dependencies, escalations, and release planning. Lead executive status reporting. Ensure projects are delivered on time while maintaining engineering quality. Candidates must have started their career as Software Engineers before moving into Program Management. Preferred experience includes: Java Spring Boot REST APIs Microservices Event-Driven Architecture Kafka Cloud (AWS preferred) Linux / Unix Hands-on coding is not required today, but candidates should be comfortable discussing architecture and technical trade-offs with engineering teams Required 15+ years of technology experience. 8+ years as a Program Manager, PMO Lead, or Delivery Manager. Financial Services or FinTech experience. Consulting background. Experience managing multiple engineering workstreams. Experience presenting to executive leadership. Excellent PowerPoint and executive presentation skills. Outstanding communication and stakeholder management. Success in this Role. Success in this role means becoming a trusted delivery partner for both our clients and engineering teams. Within the first few months, you'll establish strong executive relationships, bring structure to complex programs, proactively manage risks and dependencies, and consistently deliver critical Banking and Financial Services initiatives on time. You'll balance client expectations with engineering execution while helping teams navigate aggressive timelines without compromising quality. Business & Leadership Skills MBA or equivalent business leadership experience strongly preferred. Executive-level communication and stakeholder management skills. Comfortable owning escalations and defending technical delivery decisions. Ability to balance strategic planning with hands-on execution.
